Other than some casual Jimmy Beam being consumed early in the day, what prompted this? Last I saw, espn is the only the group that had us in the top 10 of their FPI

Off your meds again? The “ESPN hate me” nonsense has been used by the fans of nearly every Power 5 program. It’s tiresome, immature and lame. Let it go

I do believe there has been a subtle cultural bias against Tennessee since the Manning-Woodson fiasco.

ESPN 'hates' us? Nope. Nothing like that. But I do believe the intense negative response by UT fans to ESPN's Woodson for Heisman campaign (which DID exist) created a subtle bias against us, which remains to this day. You see it in little digs in otherwise innocuous reporting, and in a constant slight negative tilt to their coverage of us.

But in the end, who cares? Just win, baby, and everything else is just background noise!

ESPN is headquartered in the Northeast, but most of all, they are a for-profit business. They know full-well where their major markets are. They have a ton more viewers in the triangle between Boston, Baltimore and Chicago, than in a same-size polygon centered over Tennessee. In their talking-heads opinions, preseason polls, recruiting rankings, and teaser commercials, they could feature Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame; or Vols, Vandy and ETSU. 🤔

Since the SEC has thrown the entire league into partnership with ESPN we have to live with them now and the FB team will profit from them. Don't remember but I don't think Manning ever made any public negative comments about ESPN on the Heisman thing and he is only TN player ever directly affected by ESPN's bias.

Are they biased to certain teams, yes but specifically hating TN is a stretch.

It seems a documentary I saw pertaining to him many years ago, that the only comment he stated related to the rumor that, and I’m paraphrasing with my quote here, “if there was a bias against a southern quarterback winning it because a southern quarterback won it the year before, then ……”. Other than that, I have not heard anything from him regarding the Heisman.

The sad truth that most Vol fans refuse to accept: if Manning beat UF his senior year he would have won the Heisman.

That’s it in a nutshell. Great player. Great kid and great ambassador. Winless against Florida was too difficult to overcome even without ESPN pulling for Woodson who, by the way, was not a bad player.

Both true. Woodson was a good player. Great? Nah. But very good. ESPN campaigned hard for him. This was about the same time they had SERIOUS pull and were single-handedly building a 'tradition' for Virginia Tech. It seemed they were enjoying their power and decided to see how far it went. It went all the way to the DAC.

Manning would have overcome that if Fulmer didn't have his lunch money stolen from him every year by Spurrier.

Uh, I’m sorry, but Woodson was a great player. He’s in the college and pro football hall of fame. One of the best defensive backs of all time. He’s not Peyton Manning, but he was an exceptional player.

If I recall, Tennessee did not beat Florida any year when Manning was our QB. However, we scored enough points that we should have beaten them every year he was our QB. Our defense just could not keep them from out scoring us every year. In fact, white the defense we have shown the last 4 years, we would beaten them all 4 years Manning was here.

I respectfully disagree. The offense was terrific in the first half of the ’95 game, but could do nothing but fumble the ball in the second half. It was completely dreadful in the first half of the ’96 game. In the ’97 game, the offense didn’t do much of anything, scoring only 14 points until a garbage time touchdown made the score look somewhat respectable.
