The expression actually refers to an especially cheesy episode of Happy Days where Fonzy attempts to jump a shark tank on his motorcycle. It was at that moment when everybody knew the show was about to go in the toilet.

well its usually tempting to select scissors on the first go and if ur opponent chooses scissors and u pick rock then the next go he will probably choose scissors again thinking that u will pick rock because most ppl who play the game think for some reason that if they lose with one pick then its not likely for them to lose with it twice in a row so they pick it again, and that would b the same for any picks lol, im totally into this stuff :)

See ESPN is a competitive sports network, they will cover and televise anything that stirs up drama or major competitive becasue they know thats what fans like to see.. no one wants to see a non-competitve game, NO ONE.. so they stir up drama on espn and then they show whatever seems the most competitve, even a good ole fashion intense game of paper, rock scissors.. espn is not nickelodeon nor the cartoon network, they are going to stir up drama any way they can and then they are goin to show whatever seems competitive such as the spelling be or a nice game of paper, rock, scissors... Entertainment (What the fans want) and Sports (competitive) programming network is what its called so why would u expect anything else... hell they may even televise a good argument from volnation if they feel the fans will like it

What non-poker players must remember is that a lot of people watch poker not just for entertainment but to study the game. Watching percentages, hearing some of the occasionally-informative commetary (depending on your channel), watching players' demeanor/movements/tells. . . . A lot of us actually have a vested interest in the game itself.

In answer to "who watches poker?", I can tell you that I am a young-30's professional with a family and decent social life, and it's one of the few things that I do watch. The same can be said of about half of my closest friends. Now, ask me how many of my friends watch the above-mentioned women's hoops, hockey, or even baseball or professional hoops. Imagine this: I can guarantee you that more people I know will watch poker this week than the NBA playoffs.

It was actually when he jumped a shark on water skis, but you had the idea.

I can say this much.My 3 college sons have continually bragged/talked about Lebron and his play over the last several days.

Thanks for setting the record straight. I had never actually seen the episode, so I did a quick search to see if this is as ludicrous a plot as it sounds:

Yep . . . Just as ludicrous looking as I thought it would be.

He has to be a good water skiier because if he ever hit the water, that leather jacket would weigh about 200 lbs.

So if you have a job and are intelligent, you like poker on TV. If you don't/aren't, you are too stupid to understand what the TV Poker thing is all about. I think i get it know.

Or you can choose to indulge in a little bit of everything (almost) and be done with it.

ESPN does stand for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, which sounds outdated, but it's a pretty open definition. The fringe sports can always fit into entertainment until they become more mainstream (if that happens). I used to think snowboarding was really obscure, but now Shaun White is all over the TV, and I really liked watching the competition during the last winter Olympics.
