This morning ESPN re-ranked the 2012 class based on actual performance and rated our class, ranked 8th in the conference in 2012, as 13th in overall production and graded it an F. Might be deserved:

"13. Tennessee Volunteers

2012 grade: B- (8th)

2016 grade: F

Top signees: S LaDarrell McNeil, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, DT Daniel McCullers.

Only five players from the class signed by then-coach Derek Dooley started double-digit games in their Tennessee careers. Two were short-stay junior college products (Patterson and McCullers) and another (Pig Howard) was dismissed from the team before his career ended. McNeil emerged into a four-year starter at safety. Attrition was the theme: 13 of the 23 signees either transferred, were dismissed or left the team, including all three ESPN 150 recruits (Howard, Drae Bowles and Dante Phillips)."

That's the one where Dools left us with 0 offensive lineman signed, so I would agree.

Did They mention not a single OL prospect recruited also? That makes the class the very last in the country IMO...

Says something about ESPN's ability to judge talent....

Judging a class on signing day is a crap shoot, IMO, because a lot will happen in the 4-5 years following. Some will exceed expectations, some won't. Some will get injured, some transfer, etc. You don't really know.

It was a horrible class....recruiting wasn't Dooley's thing. Neither was motivating the team, game prep or game management. Frankly, nothing that SOB does is worthwhile....Cant believe anyone would want him around their football program.

OTOH, it doesn't speak too well of ESPN talent evaluation with Bowles and Phillips in their top 150.

Nice job Utah. Hard to believe there was somebody worse in the conference! I wonder who that was?

I'll give him the VFL program and he helped design nice facilities.

But yeah, he definitely sucked otherwise. The last of his stench is wearing off.

He was in over his head and clearly never should have even been allowed to interview for the job. But, life is full of ups and downs, and the last 10 years of crap the fans and players have been through is what makes the upswing that much better.

Sometimes I wonder if a recruiting class should be evaluated and ranked after they are finished playing, instead of before they ever take a snap in college.
