From Jalen Hurd's departure latest blow for fading Tennessee Volunteers - SEC Blog- ESPN

With the offense a mess, the defense, which was hit the hardest by injuries, has been mostly solid -- outside of the Texas A&M and Alabama games. If anything, Tennessee's defense should be holding this team back, but it's actually superseding expectations, while offensive coordinator Mike DeBord admitted to not seeing a lot of what opposing teams have run in games on film.

That comes down to making adjustments -- and the defense has adjusted to injuries better than the offense has adjusted to its opponents.

say what? Does anyone know where Debord admitted this? If true, that is really just inexcusable on so many levels. You cant just have your own scheme and think you can run it with impunity. Maybe that is why its hard to make half time adjustments?

I saw that he admitted that teams are not doing what the film shows. He is basically saying we can't adjust during a game when things aren't going the way we expected.

You can watch hours of film and the other team still runs things that aren't on there. I don't think there's any way he doesn't actually watch film of opponents

Sure they run unexpected stuff but why is it that I hear from successful coaches how they watch film all the time? Are you saying its not really all that important?

So are you the official mouthpiece on this board of the coaching staff? How could you watch what has transpired and make excuses for it?

IMO, his comments at the QB club today concerning defenses showing different looks that what they have seen on film should be enough to get him fired. Shouldn't good OC's expect defenses to give them different looks and have adjustments ready??

What struck me was the tone as if he was saying "this only happens to us, no one else...we are the only team that watches game film and then get to the game and those gosh darn teams aren't following the script for us." Pretty unbelievable

no, he does not at all..he thinks he is the best. no one can sceme around him..trust me he thinks this..then he goes into a mode that no one understands then at times it makes since but most times it dont.

dont matter the score it matters the time on the clock scheme wise..

This explains so much. He thought we were supposed to give the opponents film of our offense. Now that he has learned that is not the case, we will be unstoppable. Season officially saved.

no but I can hear/read a statement and understand what it actually means. I've made no excuses for anything or anyone. Anyone thinking he's not watching any game film is really not thinking straight

This means that they never coached Dobbs on how to read defenses or was able to adjust plays accordingly.

I'm pretty sure DeBord likes to call certain plays to "bait" defenses hoping that 1 play gets us about 30 yards.

This is a reason why sometimes it's important for coordinators to be down on sidelines asking players what's going on. Yeah, DeBord can slowly figure that out by himself, but the lack of communication about it worries me

Not the most reassuring statement from the OC of a offense that is struggling in all phases. My question is if you watched SC film, didn't you see they hadn't stopped the run all year? Why didn't you keep pounding it?

how do you draw that conclusion? Do you think Dobbs isn't watching film either?

What's the point of watching film, if you aren't being taught what to look for, because the guy that is supposed to be teaching you, doesn't have a clue either?

Maybe he didn't mean every team, but I can say with certainty that Bama didn't do anything different against UT than they've done against any other team with a mobile QB.

This!!! This!!! This!!! This!!! This!!! Kelly only 14 touches (for 94 yards, I might add)...If this is a "run first" offense, I would hate to see a "pass happy' one.

Agree. And the reality is every other team has not revamped their defensive scheme against us. Just a lazy excuse from an OC committing malpractice.
