ESPN.com's College Football Prestige Rankings....

So ESPN.com is doing a "prestige" ranking of all FBS college teams...basically ranking the best programs in the history of college football...something that has been discussed on here several times...

Yesterday was 21-119th...today is 16-20th...tomorrow is 11-15th...and so on...

The rankings consist of a point system with positive points for successes(NC's, overall wins, bowl wins, etc.) and negative points for failures (overall losses, NCAA sanctions, etc.)...

Some notables so far (at least the ones that stood out to me in the 2 minutes I looked over it):

Auburn is 21st
Ole Miss 24th
Kentucky 69th
USCe is 83rd

AND...last but certainly not least...with the dubious distinction of placing dead last....you guessed it....Vanderbilt...119th out of 119 teams

Tennessee is not on the list yet which means we are guaranteed at least 15th place all time according to this highly scientific and indisputable ranking system...:)

I know we have debated this here ad nauseum...but does anyone want to venture a guess where we end up on this list?

If we aren't number one I will be PISSED!

Jk, but I hope we are above Florida and LSU and GA at least.

They have a scoring list that I didn't bother to look over...

Good things...like NC's...are positive points(25 for an NC)...and bad things...like probation are negative points....

Apparently Vanderbilt has never accomplished anything of note in the entire existence of their football team

pre-1950 Vandy was very good...

I know that was a long time ago, I just expected there to be another program with a greater history of futility.

well that criteria alone should keep Alabama out of the top-5. And wouldn't SMU's death penalty place them below Vandy? You don't really get much worse.

Wonder how old Skip will spin that one?

I will say 10th behind ND, Michigan, Bama, Ohio St., Oklahoma, Nebraska, Penn. St., USC, Texas.

Well..the biggest scorer is NC's...and UF now has more unanimously recognized NC's than we do...

I still think they will be ranked below us...but not by much

Legend has it that when Gen. Neyland was hired in the 20s his job was to "even the score with Vanderbilt"...or something along those lines. It seems like I remember Vandy's heyday was the 1910s to the 30s. The ESPN prestige poll begins in 1938 with the first AP poll. Therefore, Vandy's "glory days" aren't included in the list. Further, Vandy has more losing seasons since 1938 than any other program (rumor). Based on these points, it makes sense why Vandy's an abject failure for the prestige poll

If it truely starts in 1938 I could see us being in the top 5 as we have the best overall record the past 75-80 years or something like that!

I refuse to acknowledge the NC aspect. Ha.

They do have that probation which will hopefully work for us.
