ESPN article- Fulmer and coaching

"I have a great picture in mind," he said Monday of what he's hoping for in his next coaching job. "Somebody that's committed to winning championships and being the best that they can be, with a chance to compete in a conference that's nationally recognized. I'm not going to go walk into a door somewhere that you have no chance to be successful.

"I want to be on the big stage and recruit against the best that's out there," he said.
delusional

:eek:lol:

Fulmer did a lot of good things for UT, but reading that I immediately think "a bit arrogant and farfetched." Outside of UT fans, who is going to read the book? Maybe I'm a bit harsh, but I just don't see any of his picture being developed. I did think his answer about Kiffin was the right call though.

"I just don't think I'm finished," he said. "I'm a young guy. I've got great energy."

Fulmer, who will be 59 next month, said he's already working on a staff.

Please tell this guy he's toast...

Have no problem with what Phil said. He gave 17 good years to this school. Good luck to you Coach and hope u win whereever u end up.

i think he's already said this and we already talked about it somewhere else here...

But if he wants to coach at a small school for a few years or something, good let him. seriously, who cares. It's better he live his life doing something he enjoys rather than wasting it doing nothing

Why would a guy who won 2 conference titles in 16 full seasons as a head coach want to work for a program "committed to winning championships?" It'll just mean he gets fired sooner.

It will never happen! Only the few Fulmerites left still believe he can coach. It was noticed long ago by rival teams that Fulmer had lost his touch.

Also, why is this in the Tennessee Football Forum? The Fired Coach's job prospects are as relevant to Tennessee Football as those of Tommy Tuberville or Jim Donnan.

He's either going to have to adjust his expectations or he won't be coaching again. No serious contender in a major conference is going to hire somebody who just went 10 years without winning a title. No AD is going to look at how front-loaded his career was and think that he's likely to bring any of that mid-90s magic back.

I see him in some Solich-at-Ohio type job, if he's realistic enough to take it. If I were a wealthy former big-school coach in the last years of my career, I'd rather compete for championships in the MAC or the WAC than be a bottom-feeder in one of the big conferences.

Good grief!!!! Give Fulmer a break. He did a good job for us and now that we have parted ways, why not wish the man well????? He ran a clean program ( when compared to other SEC schools) and his ex players love him and look up to him. I agree it was time for him to go, but don't hate on the guy.....and on a side note, Chavis would love to "hitch his wagon" to Fulmer, because Fulmer helped him just as much as Chavis helped Fulmer.

you know, i've wondered that at times too hat; but that kinda would have to go under the same thing as the stuff johnny majors says doesn't need to appear on this board here either...

i mean, wouldn't it?

I have this sad image in my mind of Fulmer sitting at his desk, waiting for his phone to ring......and it never does.

Depends on what Majors is talking about. If he's talking about the energy and professionalism of the new staff, that's Tennessee related and relevant to this board. If he's discussing the fact that Doug Dickey and The Fired Coach are two of the biggest jackasses ever to walk the face of the Earth, that should be in one of the other forums since neither of those guys have anything to do with UT anymore.
