ESPN Article (Chris Low) - Vols/Huskies Similarities

Exactly!

He took on all comers at BSU, whipped most of them including Oregon twice in Autzen. And during his tenure at Boise his teams
averaged #75 in recruiting. He's got a QB and 9 starters back on offense. They should be fun to watch.

When Tennessee hired Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones, Petersen was the one coach I felt you force him to say no before you start a search. Everyone here tried to tell me he will never leave Boise.

I am pleased with Butch, but where could we have been had Petersen replaced Fulmer? I don't think I am out on a limb saying on a lot less misery than we had.

Anyone sees Mike Hamilton, tell him I AGAIN said,

:finger3:

You wear your ignorance well saying Tennessee is a contender. I hope we are, but I see a program that is 0-9 against the SEC West, 0-6 against our two main rivals. Being 6-0 against South Carolina and Kentucky does not cut it. Until something changes projecting this program as a contender is ridiculous.

i did feel that last year we had the players to be a contender, but not the gameday coaching. Hopefully, that can be corrected and then we can talk about being contenders.

I agree. Well said my Vol bro! 😁

Uh yea, I can say that with absolute certainty if Northwestern had somehow made it to the Rose Bowl last year then Stanford would have beaten them just as badly as they beat Iowa.

This post is too ignorant to even warrant a retort beyond what I have already typed.

In the first game of the year, Stanford at the end of the year would have been a tough game for any playoff team. Out UT in the Pac 12 and we are struggling to make the champ game

In the past? Sure.

2016 Vols to through that conference like a hot knife thru butter. Zero resistance.

Why so defensive? The article is not about which is the stronger/weaker team or program. Here the similarities listed:

Quote:
1. Their football stadiums famously bound by water,
2. Tennessee and Washington are increasingly popular choices to rejoin college football's high seas this season

3. (there is legitimate) hype (building around both of) the two rosters
4. The Vols return 18 starters from a team that won its last six games a year ago and bring back experienced playmakers at most of the key positions (while) The Huskies return 16 starters from one of the youngest teams in the country a year ago... and bring back most of the key pieces from the Pac-12's top scoring defense
5. Both schools won national championships in the 1990s and
6. (both) bring back long (and painful) losing streaks to divisional rivals that span a combined 23 games (with) Tennessee (having) lost 11 in a row to Florida (while) Washington has lost 12 in a row to Oregon.

1. Tennessee is way more of a contender this year than Washington. We're a legit national title contender. They are not.

2. Tennessee is historically way more prestigious. We're more comprable to Michigan than to Washington. If this was about Tennessee/Michigan rising back to 90s prominence it would make sense.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda but didnt and thats the point. The fact is Northwestern was better than Stanford that day. What would have happened between the two teams at the end of the season is irrelevant. Nobody can say with any certainty that Northwestern would not have beaten Stanford again. They absolutely could have.

There are only 2 indisputable facts here: Northwestern beat Stanford and Tennessee curbstomped Northwestern. End of story.

And it has no relevance to the fact UT is better than Stanford. The only way to tell is to play them.

Indeedly -- and so it's a wonder that you walked away from our program o-so-many years, and as to why you've already announced your re-resignation, should things not go as you've planned this year.

The article can also be read from a Huskies-perspective (and who knows -- Wash just may turn out to be the program you jump to in January / it's possible).

Petersen is a quality coach...but BSU was competitive in the WAC before he ever got there.

He had some great teams and they surprised a lot of folks...but don't think they "whupped" most of the quality / ranked teams they played. Beat, yes...but always think it rather easy to get up for one game a year...and play (much) less competition otherwise, and keep most of your horses healthy all season. He's living schedules full of quality opponents in the PAC12 now.

Kellen Moore was one of the best college QB's I've watched...he was the catalyst in many of the victories against P5 teams, which sorta tapered off when he left.

Also, Oregon was a home & home...still impressive at the time, nonetheless.

Thats right they were home and home. But Petersen arrived in 2001 as OC, they never played those quality opponents under Hawkins. And you can qualify all those other game the way you want but they did whip Georgia at home.

Well...they actually did play the 1 a year under Hawkins as well, just lost most of them.

I'm not qualifying, just think Moore was that much of a difference maker for BSU....they also had some great D's (Wilcox built), and did whup UGA...that's for sure.

Washington has like 17 returning starters..

To say the Pac12 is a weak conference this year is just absurd.. Sure they don't have an elite team, which is why they'll be excluded from the CFP again, but Stanford, USC, UCLA, Washington, Washington St, and Oregon? I see 6 Top 30 teams, don't underlook Washington even though they're not a Top 10 Team like us

Um, Stanford at 3 (post season AP) is not elite? I agree with everything you said, but I would put Stanford up there
