ESPN Article about the Bar Knoxville Fight

something just doesn't add up in that story

"One of them was holding my head up, and they were punching me in my face while I was on the ground and stomping on my chest," Russell said. "Finally, my friends were able to help get them off me, and the bouncers started dragging them outside."
these are huge guys who did relatively little damage

New info. Sounds like Montori is at the center of a lot of this as far as the fight goes. Hadn't read much about the fight but if that's true about Denarious that's the first I've heard of him being one of the guys doing the beating. Hope its not true.

OK first off we are going to have a great swarming defense next year....:)

Second…no videos evidence. then it is all based on eye witness at a bar…..I will give the guys prompts for admitting he did swing at Hughs…now the other players may have only seen that who knows….:cool2:

Third….I think the issue outside has been dealt with, ie Edwards….:vava:

Fourth, this all makes me sick, just sick…. :banghead2:

This doesn't add up. I thought it had been confirmed that Nelson threw the first punch.

Is it possible Hughes is being confused with Nelson still?

Nelson hit the Russel dude and Myles hit the cop? Right?

Who is Gary Russell and why is he being quoted by espn? What did he do in all of this? Surely the football players present that night were provoked by this guy. Or is he someone that would have a legitimate beef with the football team? I strongly doubt it but don't know for sure. ....

If you read the whole article you get the idea that there is definitely three sides to this story.

I just can't see these players willing to act like "thugs" without being provoked into it! I'm definitely not saying that it isn't possible and I'm not taking their side because they should have been able to walk away. You don't just turn and hit a guy for bumping into you!! ... but on the other hand, some of the guys there should have stopped the fight immediately. Especially a Senior!!

Now the cop on the outside going to the hospital is a different story. Some of these guys need to find a new home outside of Knoxville IMO.

Yeah this story just gets more bizarre with every report. According to the police report Russell named Nelson (which was disputed by someone in the Atletic Department). Now it's Hughes and Moore?

I love how they didn't have their surveillance system up due to a power surge that happened 2 days before this. Coincidence?

if this is true, it's pretty disgusting. However I will say that our players story sounds a little more believable. Why would hughes just start punching him? and then 6 guys jump in immediately instead of trying to break it up? doubtful... but possible. And it's pretty convenient that the video tape isn't working... If they're side is factual then we do just have a bunch of thugs on our team....

Defense lawyers will rip him to threads.

Good article, and maybe gets to the point of how this all got started. Football players saw one of their own being attacked and reacted in a violent fashion. Should it have gotten to the point it did? Probably not, but football players and Soldiers take care of their own.
There are always two sides to an argument and the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.

Wrong cop, Myles caught a campus cop with an elbow when he was resisting arrest.

Good question. I have my doubts abotu how it all started. However, there is little dispute that the players took this too far. It wouldn't hurt for these guys to have just a little more self control.

Also intersting that the press portrayed the players as kicking and stomping all over the cop. Now, here, it is down to maybe one kick.

But, I do agree with the poster who said this is a PR nightmare. Again, these guys need to carry themselves better than this. I hope there is wholly he!! being paid on the inside. CDD cannot let this go unpunished w.r.t. every player that was involved--whether we hear about it or not.

The bar owner couldn't see who was kicking the od po but knows it was a football player? A "power surge" eliminated the possibility of video evidence? We had some players cross the line for sure but this story reeks of bias based misinformation. If fat boy got beat like he said he did he would have been in much worse shape than he is.

If this kid took the first swing he must have had a death wish. Hughes has 8 inches and hundred pounds on that kid. Also, this begs the question of why the other guys had to jump in to defend Hughes given that he was so much bigger than this Russell dude.

Sounds like it was a pretty routine bar fight. Guy one bumps into guy two, one or both mouth something and they push until someone throws a punch. One or both guys buddies see the fight and jump in instead of breaking it up. Half the Bouncers see the fight and join in instead of breaking it up. The other half move the fight outside where things really get crazy. Cops arrive, half run, other half start telling the cops how it was someone that started it.
