ESPN-Vols hungry for first SEC title since '98

Hope this hasn't been posted already, I looked around on here and didn't see it.

Hamilton is on record as saying his expectations at Tennessee are to win atleast two SEC championships during a 10-year period and get to the SEC title game every three or four years, as well as play in BCS bowls with some regularity.

Here is one of the things it talks about in that. I am glad Hamilton feels the way everybody else does. With that said, this is in no way intended to be a Fulmer bashing post.

:good!:

BTW, it's on the front page of the College Football section on ESPN, if the link doesn't work for some reason.

IMO comments like that do not have any teeth when you give the coach in question a contract extension after a season when none of the above stated goals are reached.

Fulmer, in my opinion, is on notice from Hamilton and the "gang". No raise is for him, extension is for the stability of the program.

Fair expectations, IMO.
That should be the Standard....right? I mean the University of Tennessee football team with all the great facilities and tradition should contend for a SEC Championship every year. They shouldn't expect to win the SEC.....right? They should win it. Maybe my expectations are to high.

No team should expect to win the SEC Championship every year. It's unrealistic. Winning it every 4-5 seasons is about right.

I think you may have took that wrong. With what you're saying, it sounds like you would fire a coach for not winning the SEC Championship every year or something, what Hamilton meant was we should atleast go to a SEC Title game every 3 or 4 years.

The SEC is so wide open every year that you can't expect anything more than that. Even in the 90's when we were having 10+ win seasons every year, we only won 2 SEC Titles.

I agree. I just would go with every 3-4 years, Put some pressure on CPF.

Tennessee should have won more.

That is the truth. I don't know why some people on here think that if UT loses 2 games then the coach should be fired. It kills me. THE SEC IS STACKED. If UT wins a NC in the next 2-3 years I wonder what will happen to all the people that call for CPF's head.

If he wins a title int he next 2-3 years, and that buys him another 10 years with no title, than I will pass on the championship.

Well, he hasn't won one in 8 seasons - that's way too long.

And UT hasn't JUST lost 2 games since 2001.

Excuse me. Winning 8 games or more in every season but 1 is good enough for most.

With all due respect, I must set you straight. :) Not trying to be argumentative, but:

Tennessee isn't most. 8 wins is good enough for Clemson, Oregon, South Carolina, Cal, Arizona State, Maryland, NC State, etc. If we want to be grouped in with those teams, we aren't where we need to be.

Most people won't be thrilled if the bar is set at 8-4. What do you get out of that. Nothing.

What do you get out of a coaching carousel? Bama.

Expectations should always be high. UT should always be at the top of the SEC. But the only team that has been a consistent NC contender plays in a weak conference (USC). Really look, Ohio State played 2 good teams this year and got beat in the NC game. Next year, they will not contend. After Butch Davis's players left Miami, well look what happened.

Who is the powerhouse that goes undefeated every year? Nobody. So quit with all that CPF sucks because his 1 NC was 8 years ago. Ask Bama, Notre Dame, Michigan or FSU fans if a NC every 8-10 years works for them.

Nobody is asking CPF and UT to go undefeated every season. Find a post EVER that said that.

3 actually . . . '90, '97 and '98.
1990 was one of CJM 3 SEC titles. I'm glad this subject resurfaced though. IMO CPF has two years to win the SEC, retire or be forced out. The Good Lord willing I'll be around to see the next HC at UTK!
