ESPN Aricle on Pruitt's defense

Oh hogwash. Be honest butchna, you just didn't want us to get orange turf. Then again, neither would I. But since Washington hasn't installed purple, even that isn't a concern anymore.

That’s Boise State’s jam. Wasn’t looking forward to Tom Cruise jumping on our couches and Travolta stealing our cheerleader outfits. :)

But but... Mike Leach would have been better

Maybe. Leach has won with lesser talent at every stop he's been at.

I mean he had Texas Tech around the top 10 at one point. THAT'S INCREDIBLE.Texas Tech?? Not supposed to happen.

But Jeremy Pruitt's recruiting and coaching and ability to evaluate personnel makes him a great choice. His defenses are truly multiple....they're not just base defenses with sub packages. He can literally run 3-4, 4-3, 3-3-5, or 4-2 with the EXACT same personnel.

But his ability to place "depth " around certain flex positions is his real strength.
Divide the talent between formations. But you can swtich formations pre-snap.

All of his guys are multiple

I just want our D to shore up at its weakest links, and from what little bit I've heard, I'm thinking that would be CB.

Now, I remember when Sutton came in and started at CB, as a true freshman, and who was not here as an EE, and he was a 3***.

I know that is not probable to repeat, but it can happen.

Or, any guy who has already been on the team and working hard, can bust out.

The Key to Pruitt's Defensive Success: Forcing Turnovers | Rocky Top Insider

Year in and year out, Pruitt’s defenses have been among the nation’s best at taking away the football from opposing offenses. Alabama was second in the SEC last season and tops in the conference in 2016 in most turnovers forced, and his Georgia squads finished fourth and third in the SEC in 2015 and 2014 respectively. Pruitt’s 2013 Florida State team forced the second-most turnovers in all of college football, tallying 35 takeaways.

“Every data set has its outliers, and when it comes to takeaways in college football, the man standing on the far end of the bell curve is Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt,” writes Hale. “If luck is the determining factor in turnovers, Pruitt’s got a pocketful of four-leaf clovers.”

I'm really looking forward to our defenses in the upcoming seasons.

Would LOVE to see the D cause more turnovers!!

Would also LOVE to see the offense stay on the field for more than 3 plays!! :banghead2:

Seems Pruitt is well known for a more aggressive style of play that attacks the opposing QB. I have always thought this was a good philosophy. If a QB starts thinking about avoiding the hit, he is paying less attention to his receivers downfield.

I am hopeful for this year but really looking forward to 2019 when CJP has really had time to train people. Then again, he seems to have done ok with his first year DC jobs

Mediocre improvement in turnovers and over all D will put us in position to win a few more than expected. If we can say the same about OL and QB, I think we'll end up in middle of SEC E at end of season, much better than the experts predict. I just want to see us competing in the 4th quarter, and not gassed out.

Washington leads? We shoulda thrown the obscene money at Petersen. AGAIN!

Nope. Pruitt leads, 139-136.

Per the article....

“Pruitt spent five years as a defensive coordinator at three different schools before being hired in December to head up the Volunteers' rejuvenation. In that span, Washington leads all Power 5 programs with 136 takeaways. But add up each of Pruitt's stops -- Florida State, Georgia and Alabama -- and he's got even more, 139. His defenses exceeded the Power 5 average in takeaways every season, and he ranked in the top 10 three times. At each new stop, Pruitt increased takeaways from the prior regime by an average of nearly 10 per season.”

We’re paying the right guy.

I'll take that right now. That can change a game or two.

15 last season to 25 (or more) this season? That should be at least 2 more wins.

Good lord, I can't believe there was a point I supported Butch. (I blame Dobbs heroics for the most part.)

That was the strategy against us for most of last season and it worked. We should be very familiar with it.

yeah. i hope we can at least crack the top 50 in total defense. We finished 80th last year. That should be worth at least 1 or 2...maybe even 3 wins right there considering we lost 3 games last year by 1 possesion; Scar, FL, KY.

Positive and negative predictions can both be extreme but positive is more fun. I prefer to see that orange sunami gangsacking Grier on the WV 25 first play. I think the defense will be vastly improved.
