We don't convert enough first downs, also we are constantly in third and long situations.

I agree, we have good backs but a pretty average o-line.

Yep. An average OL, whose weak point is getting push and opening holes in the running game. The difference between what our OL did v what UGAs elite OL did in the 2nd half is staggering. Swift and Herriman(sp?) could usually run in the whole and fall fwd for 3-4 yards on almost every play. Our guys had to make a cut and dive in a gap for 1yd. Due to the fact that UGAs stout DL literally froze the LOS.

This is a major key to consistent winning FB. We're not there yet.

This. But the coaches also need to run more. We give up on it too easily
O Line isn't good enough to run between the tackles against UGA and hitting the edges are a lost cause as well because of their defensive speed. The pass game has to be established and maintained before u can try running it down their throats. Tire the defense by having them continually pass rush but it only works by sustaining drives.

The coaches have forgotten running the football is also part of playing football.

Notre Dame only had 55 total rushing yards against the dawgs. Until their big nose tackle went down, there was not going to be a lot of success rushing against Georgia between the tackles. Our plan had to be pass first run second last night.

No way "running more" would have been an effective strategy against GA. Our line us better at pass blocking, our running backs aren't exactly world beaters. Best chance to play close to Georgia was to let our freshman qb take shots, take them by surprise, and get the ball in the hands of our best playmakers. To take the game away from the line of scrimmage, not through it.

I agree. Chaney quit running the ball last night and put alot on Mauer.
He needed his teammates help.
Huh? So we've went from complaining about never throwing downfield to complaining about the lack of run plays?

Seems to me he hasn't gotten nearly enough touches since the BYU game. Really like his playmaking ability

What plays has he made? No offense, but he's always talked of, but I don't recall seeing him do much. To my untrained eye, he's a scat/3rd down out of the backfield type back. He's not a kid that's gonna give you 20 carries a game and move the chains. If anything Chaney needs to get him in space with the short passing game.

Agreed! Have to continue to run the ball and speed up the game. We don’t have the depth to be stopping the clock.
