Hopefully it gets straightened out rather quickly, along with the Marlon Walls fiasco.

Hubbs said that everything was cleared up this afternoon. He was in defensive meetings this afternoon and will be back on the field tomorrow morning.

I hate the clearinghouse more every year.:furious3:

You hate the clearinghouse? Thousands upon thousands of kids make it through the process every year. It's really not that big of a deal. It is tedious, but it's also pretty clear about what is expected. BUT...if someone tried to pull off some bull**** because they are functionally retarded and can't get through the process without cheating and got busted for it...then it is a big deal.

He went to Hillsboro in Green Hills. Seriously, what is the deal? Thousands of kids may go through it but they need to hire more people. You would think they could process everything BEFORE kids enroll in college. I know the clearinghouse is a seperate entity, but waiting to the last minute with these students is ridiculous.

Well, Hubbs said he is fine, I'm sure it was no big deal and Gordon's eligibility was never in question.

Do you realize the Clearinghouse has like 4 or 5 different Marlon Walls transcripts to sort through? His delay is due to this. His case is not the norm and blaming the clearinghouse is just stupid.

Can someone give a clear explanation as to exactly what the clearinghouse is? I mean who does it consist of, what exactly do they do, etc.

I was talking about Gordon. To say Marlon Walls went to Hillsboro is just stupid.

How long does it take to sort through 4 or 5 transcripts? 10 Minutes? 15 Minutes? 8 Weeks?

Online courses take a little bit more time to sift through.

The clearinghouse has very specific criteria for determining the eligibility of student-athletes. Per wikipedia:

To participate in college athletics in the freshmen year the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) states that students must meet three requirements; graduate from high school, complete the minimum required academic courses, and have qualifying grade-point average (GPA) and SAT or ACT scores (Hishinuma and Fremstad 589-591).

The 16 academic credits are four courses in English, two courses in math, two classes in social science, two in natural or physical science, and one additional course in English, math natural or physical science or another academic course such as foreign language (2009-2010 Guide for the College Bound Athletes).

To meet the requirements for grade point average and SAT scores students the lowest possible GPA a student may be eligible with is a 2.000 with an SAT score of 900. The lowest SAT score a student may be eligible with is 700 with a GPA of 2.500(Hishinuma and Fremstad 589-591).

I think these GPAs are calculated solely from the required courses above. So once the clearinghouse has a student's test score documentation and transcripts, they still have to make sure all the required courses were taken and recalculate the GPA. If there are multiple transcripts, as with Walls, they have to verify that the courses from all institutions are legitimate. When online classes are involved it seems to make it trickier to do this, so there can be delays in the process.

We have to always keep in mind that the NCAA's dedication is to the 'student' part of 'student-athlete' (as it should be), so sometimes this can be frustrating to us fans. Patience is key, because in the end the clearinghouse will make the correct decision based on the rules that apply to every school in the NCAA.
