Just wanted everyone to know that the great thorpe award winner this year, Malcolm Jenkins, ran a whopping 4.6 (and some change) 40 yard dash at the combine. Eric Berry could back pedal faster than that!

They are two different kinds of players.

Malcolm Jenkins is really good, quick and instinctive.

EB is better than really good, quick, instinctive, fast, hits hard, and finds the ball no matter where it is on the field.

CFB awards are worthless, we saw it with Manning and the Heisman, Tebow this past season with the Heisman, and Berry with the Thorpe.

Makes you wonder what games these experts are watching or if they get all their sports info from text messages sent by blind kids from foreign countries.

The Touchdown Club of Columbus has named Tennessee strong safety Eric Berry the winner of the 2008 Jack Tatum Award. The prestigious award, named for Ohio State and NFL legend Jack Tatum, is presented annually to the best defensive back in college football.

I laughed when this came out a couple of weeks ago. Malcom Jenkins goes to Ohio State and they didnt give it to him.

ESPN is ridiculous.

Tatum was a safety just like berry. Tatum was a hard hitting safety also like berry so its not that weird for him to get that award. As for the thorpe i personally caouldn't argue against one or the other getting it.

Who gives a sh*t? I'm pretty sure Eric Berry doesn't care about the Thorpe or Malcolm's 40 time.

CB's just don't get the kind of stats that safeties too. Asomugha is the best CB in the game and had 1 pick and 40 tackles last year. Berry is beter, but Jenkins was a great DB.

Jenkins was far and away the best CB in the country last year. He deserved it just as much as Berry.

And 40 times are stupid. Otherwise Jared Cook of South Carolina would be the best TE in the country. Knowshon Moreno didn't even break 4.6...etc

Eric Berry deserved it but to say Jenkins is less good because of a 40 time? Come on. People put way too much stock in 40 times.

40 times are important but without pads on they are really not that important. I am super impressed with that Kid from the WAC confernece who submerged himself under water and jumped out of the pool onto the ground at 290lbs. That is something to talk about!

He wasn't far and away the best corner in the country. He deserved to win the award just as much as Berry did, but he wasn't easily the top corner. He's a very good player, but Vonte Davis could end up being the better of the two and there are other corners who are very, very good as well.

What does ESPN have to do with it?

Junkins is overrated due to poor B10 competition, he will be a safety in the NFL due to lack of speed, lateral quickness, fluidity in the hips among other things

Jenkins is far from overrated. True he may end up at safety but it's not like he hasn't ever played that before (junior year) but if he does its pretty much because of his 40 time (overrated measurement). I still think he ends up at corner though, he's too good at it.

The Big Ten's not a top tier conference, but you're basically saying that every player from a small school is overrated too since they don't play against great competition.

There are only 2 top tier conferences (big 12 & sec) so i would put the big 10 3rd. Even when OSU played non big 10 competition (mainly usc and texas) the teams went away from him....texas even moved quan cosby to the slot so they could get him away from malcolm.

the reason why Jenkins won the thorpe award is because he was a senior and played at Ohio state and they had a winning record last year. Everyone knows that if tn was decent last year then berry would have gotten the much deserved media attention and would have won the thorpe if we had a winning record.

I didn't know that, amazing.

Junkins stats and hype were inflated due to poor competition week in and week out in the B10, thats a fact. Junkins can be a good safety in the pros, and with a weak safety class, probably what someone drafts him as, has no where near the overall skills to play CB in the NFL.

Junkins was a speedy guy by Big 10 standards. a 4.55 is a sub 4.3 in any other conference. Junkins was constantly beat as a CB, however the WR are so slow he could use his Big 10 speed to catch up to them, which is why he gets a lot of picks. the WR in the pros are just a hair faster than Northwestern WRs sadly, he won't be able to catch up to them. He has the body type and speed to be a safety in the NFL, or he can be burned by NFL WRs and be out of the league in a few years. I am sure he'd prefer the former.
