I know this is a bit too, too early but there's already talk, on a local level, of Berry being a potential candidate for the coveted Heisman Trophy next season. Despite the screwjob of being the best defensive player in college football to a Suckeye in an inferior conference, he is one heck of a dynamic player who can only get better as he finds out what is like to play defense in the NFL.

Barring any unforseen circumstances, he will be gone after his junior year; a potential TOP 10 pick or maybe TOP 5.

So let the talk begin about this potential reality.

AND

Which player(s) in college football next season may give him stiff competition?

So the hype starts here so start sending your requests in for next December so the voting committee and its past winners, not ESPN, can be swayed towards picking him as the 2009 recipient. .

and how would we do that?

Tebow will be up for another Heisman next year. Sam Bradford probably won't come out and neither is Colt McCoy. I'd say one of those 3 guys wins it next year. Probably McCoy.

I was on campus at UT about a month ago and there was a guy selling shirts on the sidewalk that said Berry 08 with the Heisman trophy under it. Needless to say i bought one

He will be the best football player in the country but will have to be dynamic on returns or offense in order to be considered for the Heisman. Plus, we have to win. McCoy, Bradford, and Tebow will have a big head start on the rest of the field. I think it would be hilarious if Bradford became the next 2 time winner instead of Tebow.

Won't happen unless they get him on the O side of the ball and he scores a few TDs. The Heisman is a joke. It goes to the best QB or RB period. When was the last time a WR won it? A OL - those guys who open holes and protects the QB. Or a LB the one who shuts down RBs and drills QBs? Let's just be honest. The Heisman is not for the best player in college football, its for the best glamor position in football.

If he played in the Big 10 he would be considered.

Didnt Bradford play in the Big 12, and Tebow in the SEC? I see ESPN get blamed for some sort of Heisman "bias", and it just seems silly to me. ( I know you were not pointing that out per say). Its up to the sports writers and previous winners, not a TV Network. Why would the largest sports station in the world give a damn about who wins the Heisman? If anything, they should want a SEC player to win it, since that is who their TV deal is with.

Anyway, if the award TRULY went to the BEST football player period (not just offense or dual athlete) then the award should have went to Eric Berry THIS year, no damn questions asked. That the Thorpe award did not go to him is the biggest screw job by the voters I have seen in a long time. If Malcolm Jenkins had been a Junior, then Berry runs away with it.

It would be nice for Berry to win one of those awards, but I think wins and a championship trophy are more important to him than award trophies. The Thorpe fiasco reminded me of how subjective and pointless the individual awards are. Not only was Eric the top DB in the country this year, he was the top defensive player in the country.

Then explain what happened in '97 where it was obvious the vote was influenced by no other than that TV Network.
