Enjoy it. Really.

Going to be tough for me to enjoy having to play Kentucky again. I hate the way we matchup with them.

@Stoerner Fumbles do you think TJ Otzelberger would be a possibility? Younger, great track record at a mid tier position in a tough conference. Tournament success and proven recruiting ability.
I have not heard any names and I don’t think we will while Rick is the coach. Again, my hope is he’s our exciting option for next year. Otzelberger is a fantastic coach. No doubt about that.

From the same press conference: "I think God'll make it perfectly clear when he wants me to step down and my time'll be up, but it's not now."
For me the spirit and vibe of that statement as he said it suggested that "not now" meant more than just not after this season; he seemed to be saying he has given no thought to stepping down in the foreseeable future, which may very well encompass multiple seasons. For what it's worth I also believe any such discussion where his age is tied to his coaching longevity is largely moot for now. I went back and watched his final press conference at Texas, and honestly he looks quite a bit better and healthier now, 10 years later, than he did then. I like to think he's simply found greater contentment and job satisfaction in Big Orange Country and that that has had the effect for him of turning back the clock to some extent.

Certainly not to impugn OP's sharing his read of things and conveying his best interpretation of sources to whom he has access (thank you @Stoerner Fumbles!, and I do understand you were not suggesting this is the end but rather that we should allow ourselves to enjoy every moment we have him in case the end is closer than we'd like), but I hope most will agree that this whole discussion can thankfully be regarded now as premature. What a fine man and coach we've been blessed enough to enjoy this long, and may God according to His will, keep him safe and healthy and coaching Tennessee basketball for some years to come!

Thanks for your post AV. I'm obviously thankful CRB is staying. I updated my thoughts on the portal thread following the UCLA win, but probably should've done so here. CRB returned to the offices and watched two straight nights of recruiting tape and had a fire about next season that let everyone know he wasn't going anywhere. I'm sure there was a collective sigh of relief in the building. I said everything I needed to say about the man, his character, his assistants and the type of player he attracts, and who they become. I continue to believe that we are seeing something we'll never see here again. The game has changed in a way that the door has (or will) close on long-term commitments from players, and teams that stay together and grow up in front of fans. CRB definitely took a hard and thoughtful look at his future recently. We all heard it in his observations about ZZ, and his reflection on the meaning of this team, and the moment we're in. I think he realized that one can't straddle the fence and wait for a message in the middle of recruiting season in the new world of Portal/NIL basketball. All signs say he's coming back. I wouldn't call that a guarantee, but I'm thankful the compass is pointing North, for now. We're lucky beyond our understanding, and I don't regret asking everyone to stop and enjoy it. I continue to believe it is a train that won't pass through here again.

As someone who started watching UT basketball technically in the DeVoe era barely but really the Houston era, I think the title of this thread hits home.

From going to an era where we hoped we got to .500 to make the NIT, to now making our 3rd straight S16, our 2nd straight EE, and now in a position where it won't even be surprising if we make the Final Four and I dare say not really that surprsing if we won it all....it's quite a mountain to climb.
