End of the year thoughts

In truth, everyone is guessing about next season. I was way-wrong on what I thought would happen this year. "I can't say nothin' cause I just don't know." (go to the way-back machine for this big band line)

First year head coach takes us to a bowl, scores more points in the season than any other team. Tennessee was able to move the ball on everybody. He had little talent to work with. I think the future is bright. I think Heupel was a great hire and I’m excited to see the boys of fall next year. My expectations for 2022….8 wins, 2023 9 wins or more. I haven’t enjoyed a season this much since 2009. Go Vols!!!!!
End of the year thoughts.....It's gonna be a loooong sucky off season...

I would say they tread water next season unless they get some major game changers on the defense in the portal.

The offense should even improve on this season but there are going to be a lot of close calls until the defense can be more than a speed bump for teams with a decent QB.

I need to see a lot next year. I am not impressed with CJH like most here are. disappointing year in my eyes considering talent and competition talent and losing games at home and to agaisnt a very average Purdue team
Talent? Did you mean lack of talent? Good lord we had 68 players on scholarship. We lost a butt load of TALENT to the portal. Most of our more talented players left due to Pruitt's McDonald's bags style of recruiting. He forgot he wasn't in Alabama. TN can't get away with Bama's style of recruiting. I honestly feel like many of them were asked to leave due to the NCAA investigations.

yea all of that is true and we still have a better roster than everyone we played this year besides Florida, Alabama, and Georgia

Not sure about end of the year thoughts, but I would like to let the Music City Bowl management know they need to be vocal about the ref crap show they hired.
Suggest they add a clause that a third party conference hired to ref their bowl cannot provide a crew/ref that was suspended in the last 10 years.
Gambling is big time now on these games. That will only make me wonder "what if" even more.

Not on Defense. We had no depth so we only had 3 subs on Defense.[/QUOTE]

Just a question on the portal. I know we can add bodies thru the portal and maybe get them where we are the weakest, but can we get talent from the portal. Are there any starting defensive players that just want to leave their team and come to UT ? I hope they can at least bring in some talent thru the portal or signing classes.

Tennessee beat Purdue, the refs sold Tennessee down the road

The offense has a chance to even improve next year and it's good enough to overcome many defensive shortcomings. If the defense can improve to overcome a bad offensive Saturday and stay in or win the game in some fashion, they'll be dangerous overall.

All that aside, I don't want to hear anything about the OL by 2023. Nothing. By then there better be no discussion of walk-ons starting, shuffling to fill holes and not enough depth. If your ID is offense, then don't be pissing around and build the key component right, the OL....by 2023. This includes picking up 3rd or 4th and 1 like it's a given.
