Where do you think UT will end this season's ranking? And, with an easy win over Vandy, where will we be ranked at the start of next season? Florida, as of today is ranked #11 (9-2), I remember there were some experts on this very board that argued FL shouldn't even be in the top 25 at the start of this season, and by mid-year wouldn't be a top 20 team! But, man-was their football knowledge is wacky. It appears the rankings at the start of the season, (top 25) are fairly accurate over the years. Of course, there are always a few that surprise with a big move up or down, but the over-all rankings aren't really that bad, considering no games for the season have been played. I think we'll start around 35-40, maybe little higher, but I doubt we'll be in the top 25 to start. After the first couple of games, we may see UT move in the 25. Any thoughts?

#26-#30 however I think Tennessee will be ranked in the 2020 Preseason Top 25 Polls that will come out this Spring.
Looking forward to it. Next season (we've heard that a million times) is going to be a very interesting call-there are so many key players across the top 25, playing their last NCAA game this year-we are far from the only U with QB changes coming. I hope your estimate (higher than mine) is correct, of course, who really cares-it's a preseason guess, I'm sure both of us are looking forward to the top 25 ranking early in the season, and one we not only hold on to, but continue to move up! BTW-Happy Thanksgiving!

We lose too much talent on both sides of the ball to be ranked top 25 next preseason. I’m thinking 30-40 range.
I've been thinking the same way, but I've tried to match it up with the teams we'll be playing, and how much talent they are going to be without (depth is hard to judge). If we can get our QB situation sorted out (and fast) have a starter-that stays the starter, we have a fair chance of moving up early-what's your take on it?

Next year this is a convo. This year, who cares, is there really a difference between 26 and 116??

Besides a moral victory nobody cares.

Yes, there's a huge difference.. about 5 wins. It says a lot about the direction of the program.
If we had 5 more wins we would be undefeated.

I dont mean in the actual product. What I meant is no one is talking junk to their buddy about their team if they are not top 25.

My guess 30-40. I think people are going to be disappointed next season. we will basically have the same record next year 7-5 or 8-4. We are not beating GA, FL or Alabubba.

But in 2021 watch out SEC east.

If the D continues improving on its current trajectory and JG shows up for his senior season like he’s finishing this season then I don’t understand why anyone thinks we can’t potentially be competitive with anyone in the SEC. once your competitive, then it only takes a few breaks going your way to get the win. BVS is still alive and well

Yea, I've been thinking about what you've said several times before about what others said about Florida before season, being overrated and not being in the top 20 mid season.

They played 2 good teams and lost. They played the same East teams that we did, you know, the ones that we beat and now "they all suck" because we beat them?

Maybe they're as good as advertised, maybe they're not. Go ahead a sing their praise if it makes you feel better.

I bashed Florida early on. They weren't very good. The fact they are now just means they got better (esp with Trask). Had they played LSU or Georgia to open the season it would have been ugly. Just because they have put things together doesn't mean they should have been top 10 all along.

We have got to get better at scoring TD's . We won vs UK & UM but both games could have been L's.
Versus UK we could not keep the ball, they controlled the game with TOP with a 1 dimension team.
Versus UM we had over 500 yards doubled their production but had to hold on for a W.
We lose our team leader JJ & Calloway both top WR's, scoring TD's may be harder.
Still lot of unknowns in early draft and will the QB situation be more consistent.
Hopefully we can show getting TD's vs a bad Vandy is going to be the norm
and continue that in a Bowl game vs a good team.
Do this and we will be right at Top 25 kind of like the Basketball pre-season ranking

I think the opposite. I believe there are going be some surprised people next year. 10-2, maybe better. The defense is going to be nasty. It’s line of scrimmage league and we’ll be strong on both sides.

I didn't really read this post other than that hashtag. #gatorssuck is so compelling an argument that any other words seem superfluous.

Oh my God you guys! If we beat a big ten team in our Florida bowl, and you think we should be looking at somewhere around 30 to 40 pre season ranking, then I think we should sell the stadium. We got the core coming back--I'm thinking top ten!

Too bad, it had a secret message that if you repeat a certain word in a response to me I'll send you 4 tickets to skybox seats for whatever bowl we go to.

Sorry.

I don’t think a win over Vandy does much for our ranking. I think we go into the bowl around 38. If we win, I think we finish around 28 or so. Next year I think we are preseason 30-35.

We lose too much talent on both sides of the ball to be ranked top 25 next preseason. I’m thinking 30-40 range.

As it stands today, all OL and DL return except likely Trey Smith, and Emmit Gooden returns from injury to the DL. The QBs and RBs are all due back. DWA is the only TE/H Back/FB known to be leaving. The Kicker and Punter return. All DBs are due to return except Warrior, and Flowers returns from his injury. Bituli in the middle and Darrel Taylor on the edge must be replaced. We lose a couple of stud Receivers.

That's it except for transfers out and other unknown attrition. Maybe a surprise senior or two who still has eligibility running through the T tomorrow and not returning. Compare that to roster turnover on other Top 40 teams and our personnel situation looks pretty good today. Personally, IDC if we are low ranked. Lotta fun watching UT basketball in 2017-2018 after being preseason picked 13th in SEC.
