Why would he leave Ohio State for Tennessee? As I said last week, some of you all have a misplaced sense of where Tennessee fits in the college football landscape. Ohio State would match and probably exceed anything Tennessee offered from a money standpoint.
And a prestige standpoint.
And a path to the playoff standpoint.

Just a stupid suggestion all the way around.

Patricia has it made at tOSU.
By some reports, he relies on the position coaches and such to do the bulk of the recruiting and then steps in to "seal the deal".

Agree too that the next big NFL job that comes open, he's probably gone.

Is Justin Wilcox looking for another HC gig? I wonder if he'd come back as DC if he's not interested in running an entire program anymore.
I don't understand the hype with him. He was here for 2 seasons, and the defense wasn't exactly anything to write home about back then.

You should tell Danny white about this so he can align the prices with this dumpster program you speak of. He didn’t get the memo.

It was damn good for the talent level at the time. He’s a west coast guy so I’d suspect SC, or another school out there take him as an analyst for the tie being.

Who said anything about a dumpster program?
You and some others have posted repeatedly pointing at the fact that TN isn’t an attractive enough job to pull top talent. While I agree with you that we definitely aren’t pulling a Patricia type hire from a school like OSU, we should be able to pull a good defensive mind from somewhere if we’re willing to open the checkbook.

So you're agreeing with Boston that Patricia is top talent and TN isn't in the rarified air to get him, but "should be able to pull a good defensive mind.." - where's the argument, besides you're projecting onto him something he didn't say?
Heupel is "good" but I don't think anyone is ready to argue he's "top talent" yet. He sure as heck wasn't when we hired him and no one since Fulmer was either. Top talent repeatedly said no, which was how we came by Heupel.

The facts speak for themselves @TJSVOLS; at best TN was a top 10 program before Fumer's decline but simply hasn't been since. Because our in-state talent is Mississippi level, our coaches have to work 3x harder just to recruit with AL, GA, FL, TX, LA, which means they have to be elite coaches as well in order to compete, and get a few breaks each season just to be competitive with the SEC upper crust. That's why it's not as easy as just wishing TN championships into existence. We have to recruit uphill, be as good or better coaching, AND luckier than our competition to have a period of competing at the top talent level.

Boston's comment was entirely sober.

This is your attempt at telling me I should stop complaining, and just be happy with 7-8 wins, right? Or did I read that wrong?

“Top talent” and a coach on a team that just won a natty and on the way to another are two different things. Of course he isn’t leaving. But there’s no reason we can’t attract a top 5-10 defensive “talent”. Unless we just won’t pay for it. That’s a DW problem.

Yeah, you got it wrong. And there's nothing to indicate salary $ are an impediment to DW, so why even go there?

TN is a stabilizing and rebuilding program after nearly two decades of being irrelevant. Top 5-10 coordinators want to work for Top 5-10 head coaches in Top 5-10 programs.
That simply isn't TN in this moment, but it might be. In the meantime, TN is what it is.
