8 years
$120M

DAAAMMMNNNNNNNN

What are they going to do with Profar? Trade Kinsler and put Profar at 2B?

plays good D and is fine offensively for a shortstop. only his age 24 season coming up, too.

ftr, not overly in love with the deal. but a middle infield of Andrus and Profar for years to come? Should be one of the best in baseball.

Solid on base for a SS (career .342). One of the five best defenders at short in the game. He's valuable. I highly doubt he's worth $120M.

Probably not, but SS is one of the key core positions (in that it's really unusual to win without a decent SS), and the Rangers just crossed it off their list of things to think about for a long, long time. It's exactly the sort of move high-payroll teams should make. Far better to overpay some when you're locking up a guy's entire prime than it is when you're buying a guy's late thirties.

Also more evidence that the Braves are going be screwed between three years from now and the end of that TV contract.

The last three World Series winners had god awful shortstops.. And that's just off the top of my head

I take it that by "god awful," as usual you mean "no better than average"? Baseball-reference has Brandon Crawford 12 runs better than average in the field last year.

Wow. Getting traded out of the Atlanta organization was the best thing that ever happened to him. He should get Escobar and his rocket arm a gift basket.

Juan Uribe was four runs off average in the field and had an OPS+ of 102 for the Giants in 2010. In other words, god awful average.

Generally if your shortstop sucks you've got a problem. Barring catastrophic injury, the Rangers won't have that problem until my kid is driving a car. Good move.

Just to be a dick.

Brandon Crawford. Juan Uribe. Julio Lugo.

I didn't like the Kinsler deal.

You're overpaying for Andrus, but if you are going to overpay for something, a 24 year old elite defensive shortstop is a good way to do it.

8yrs 120mil for a "waiter" is ludicrous.
