I have a rowing machine, even though I don't use it much anymore. I don't mind it nearly as much as a bike, and absolutely hate the eliptical and treadmill. I think I still associate running with punishment, and running steps as punishment for something really, really bad.

elliptical definitely. the rowing machine works fewer muscles and i think you'll find it gets boring pretty quick.

By the way, there isn't really a "better" workout. Any of the above will do the job. For me, it is an issue of which one I am most likely to stick with, which was the rower (for a while.)

There is a New Year's resolution in there somewhere, I'm sure.

Even if the number of muscles worked was at issue (which it really isn't; the main benefit of each is an all-around aerobic workout,) the rower engages nearly every muscle in the body.

If you want to work muscles, use resistance. If you want to do cardio, any will be fine.

i do weights and the elliptical. but as you point out, whatever you will continue doing is the best option.

The eliptical was my first choice, but I started looking at the rowers since they take up less space
thanks for the input

Elliptical stresses cardio a bit more than rower, so you might need to do weights with it.

Elliptical....when i was going to the gym regularly, before i got married, :), definitely a good way to get a good cardio work out and burn a lot of calories.

and the easy on the knees thing is a big plus too.

Go outside and run. Same workout, less money.
