“We’ll miss Eddie, he got a great opportunity,” Kiffin said Thursday. “He wants to be a head coach, and to go be the assistant head coach there was an opportunity he really couldn’t pass up. We’re very excited for him. To kind of show what kind of guy Eddie is and our relationship with him, Eddie just left the office today. He’s been here the last three days even though he doesn’t work for us anymore, watching Virginia Tech for us and developing a plan for what he thinks we should do against them and writing it all down. He’s going to go over that with me, and it kind of describes what type of guy he is.”

Let's not bash the man for doing what is best for him and his family. He still had enough integrity to stick around and help when he didn't have to.

Good man, great RBs coach and recruiter. Special teams though, not so much. We need to really improve there next year. With a decent special teams performance we either beat Florida in Gainesville or take it to the wire with them.

Its part of the coaching game. I never understood why every one got so emotional over it. He is going to his home state and moving up in position. I wish him luck and hope he makes UF work harder for instate players.

I think you nailed it DaddyChad - that is the one area that Kiffin wants to improve with this next hire. 3 out of 4 isn't bad though and he won't have ST at FSU. Good move for him.

I wonder how Brown and Oku are taking this change and what they want in their next coach.

Why does everybody throw Gran's previous successes out of the window when it comes to ST. Gran was known to be a great ST coach at Auburn. This is very similar to Clawson, who was a great coach before UT and after UT.

Letting 1 year of ST coaching with UT's players make everyone think they are an expert at evaluating Gran's STs coaching ability is ridiculous. UT has been poor on ST for quite a while and improved towards the end of the season once we started using our most talented guys.

It was too risky to do so at the beginning of the season and we simply didn't have the depth to have great STs by starting backups. Is this so hard for everyone to understand?

Good luck coach, wish you the best! Although your time here was short, we appreciate your service!

What did the "at risk" part mean?

Also how long do you think he will be at FSU? My guess is as soon as Tubby gets a job he is gone with him.

Did you forget about that little game in Tuskalooser?

like the post...I didn't like the gran bashing at all because it was a no brainer move that everyone here would have done the same thing in that situation....I for one would love to see FSU back in the national picture because it is great for college football and splits the talent of Fla into 3 schools Miami, FSU and FLA making it harder on FLA to rack up the talent they did while the others were down. Maybe now FSU will finally get some good running backs...can't believe they have been so weak since Warrick Dunn at that position

I like Eddie, It bothered me to see some people who call themselves fans bash the man...He's been good to us in the short time he's been here...I wish him the very best in life and hope his dream of one day becoming a head coach comes true.

An "at risk" employee is simply an employee who has a clause in his/her contract/MOA that says the school can fire the employee with no monetary penalty, but that the employee can leave the program for another job without any penalties either.

FWIW, Coach Gran asked for that particular clause to be in his MOA.

Gran may be in Tallahassee for a while. He is going back home and is looking to be a head coach one day, so don't expect him to follow Tubby just anywhere...be tough to get him out of Florida unless its for a head job IMHO.

Have nothing but respect for Gran. I never thought he would be a long term fit with the current staff.

I hate to see him leave UT, but I wish him nothing but the best in the future.

Wish a guy like him fit in better with the current staff.

I'm not sure what you mean here. Are you saying you wish the current staff was more like Gran or that Gran was more like the current staff?
