Just imagine if we had some backups at safety......EB could rule from wildcat under center.....Soooo quick, Soooo fast.

I don't think he could do as well this year especially with our thin offensive line..... I mean I think our running game will hopefully be better this season, but I'm also prepared to see an offensive line who is thin and if injury occurs, which most likely will happen at some point, I just hope we can manage the ball safely. Only time will tell though.

Lane said earlier in the offseason that it wouldn't happen. So...take that for what it's worth.

it's not a depth thing. Kiffin has just said that he doesnt want for berry to get hurt the year before he declares for the draft and end up having his draft stock plummeting

I believe the reasoning has been that he needs to spend as much time as possible learning the defense.

that too

but i'm pretty sure i saw something in the newspaper writeups on the media days saying he didn't want him to get hurt before he left for the draft

doesn't make sense. special teams gunner, but not a viable option under center? I'd rather take my chances under center rather than running full speed toward a guy who is also running full speed.

if you're as fast as berry is, odds are the guy's not going to be running yet (or if he is, he'll still be at the point of just starting building up speed when at contact)

I think him being under center would open him up to more repeated hits on him and more of the types of hits that can cause you to land the wrong way on a leg (especially in spread/option running scenarios)

yeah but when you line up under center, 11 guys across the ball are looking to take a shot at you, when you're a special teams gunner you have one or two receiver types trying to block you and one guy trying to avoid you.

PR are usually not up to full speed by the time a gunner gets down there.

after tEB destroys some PR - probably WKU or UCLA, it will shut down 2, maybe 3 "alleys" on his side of the field, forcing the PR to go the other way, luv it

I wasn't a gunner, but most of the worst/best hits I was involved in usually occurred on ST returns/KO's. OTOH, I never played qb.

but it's not the spectacular or loud hits that usually get you hurt. they just usually knock the wind out of a guy most times at worst unless the guy making the hit was leading with his helmet.

It's the ones where the weight of another (sometimes heavier) human body on you forces your leg out in an awkward position and you fall on it that get you hurt...or a linebacker or lineman slamming your ribs into the ground.

And again, berry's fast enough at gunner that he'll be getting to the guy either right when he's making the catch or before he's had enough time to really build up enough moment to really hit back

After reading about this topic I am literally gitty imageing EB knocking Brandon James head off. I believe I am speaking for everyone when I say that pest has been a thorn in my backside for far to long.
