East Tennessee Weather II

For those who can’t access the link, there’s a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for areas along and west of interstate 75 until 2:00 am EST.

Something I found that’s pretty cool is that David Aldridge still gives out forecasts for East TN on his social media pages. He must really love East TN to not go and find another news station in another location to be a meteorologist for.

Agreed! Love David Aldrich. I still follow him on Facebook. I trust his forecasts as much as anyone. A shame with what happened with WVLT.

My thoughts on this system:

1. It looks like there will be multiple rounds of storms tonight and tomorrow (potentially 3 lines/multicellular storms). There’s quite a bit of uncertainty with the latter 2 rounds in regards to timing and strength. We’ll have to get through this first round before we’ll know more about the others.

2. There is a unique aspect to this system that we don’t see often. Typically, when the sun sets, the instability weakens from the loss of daytime heating. Due to the strong jet and trough, the instability is actually increasing throughout the night.

3. The biggest threat with these storms will be damaging winds up to 70 mph. Large hail threat is low. Tornado threat is very low, but an isolated brief tornado can’t be ruled out.

This line of storms is going to be extremely nasty. I highly recommend that everyone get their weather radios ready for this event.
