UNCA was picked second in the Big South, although they had better hope for an act of god for that to occur if the same team continues to show up. ECU was never supposed to be good, I think we all knew the tournament is pretty much set up for a Tennessee - Purdue final. We all know Northern Iowa should kill DePaul, although they are pretty average too. Same sorta scenario with Purdue vs. South Dakota State and the winner of Boston College/St. Joe's.

Our nonconference opponents are off to a collectively dismal start.

I feel like this is a good thing.

Im all for going the Izzo route and scheduling a daunting list of powerhouse to get ready for the tourney, but if the goal really is to get to the elite eight and beyond this schedule is the best we have had for it.

We only have 3 to 7 ranked games. Kentucky twice possibly a third in SEC tournament, Kansas, most likely Purdue, possibly Memphis after tonight's showing, and maybe Miss St, but not looking good.

This means that if we take care of business against are unranked teams and win 3 out out of 5 against the big boys we have a strong case for a 1 seed.

The regular season is so underrated because NCAA seeding means everything. Florida would have never won there title in 06 if they didn't get the worst team in the tourney in a 14 seed first round, an 11 seed in the second round, a 7 seed in the sweet sixteen, and then another 11 in the final four.

We got screwed in 08 when we were ranked the worst of the 2's and had to play Louisville in the sweet 16. Even if we had won we would have played UNC. If we would have gotten a better 2 we would have played Stanford, Xavier (who we had already beat), or Wisconsin. All worse teams and better match ups then Louisville who was playing like a 1 seed at the time.

Im excited for this schedule. We have enough "HUGE" games to be battle tested for the tourney. Plus this is an experienced team that doesn't need games for them to know what the tournament is like. At least till we get to the elite eight.

Austin Peay beat Akron on the road. Good win for them. Purdue is 1-0. Memphis looked better than most predicted against Kansas (who looked beatable IMO). USC is undefeated.

The SEC should also have more ranked teams than just UK. It is very possible that 3-4 will be ranked when TN plays them.

I went to several ECU games when I was a kid, living in eastern NC. My favorite player was a guy named Dink Peters.
Just thought I'd share, since I'm still too immature NOT to think his name is funny.

I watched just a little bit of DePaul-Columbia last night. Not pretty.

Isn't that a Pharmacy school?
Its a bible belt baptist school. Until the 90's, you would get kicked out if you had people of the opposite sex in your dorm room. Alcohol is still prohibited i believe.

It is the gitmo of universities.

They have a pharmacy and law school.

I like this post but I think that the SEC has the chance to get several teams ranked if they do well in their OOC schedules.

I agree we need a great seed and with our schedule we have that opportunity. I also think that Vanderbilt could easily be ranked this year, Florida has a shot and so does Ole Miss.

Have you seen the hideous results by the SEC thus far?

MSU and Ole Miss have a prayer to be there.

You may be right (as I do not pay as close attention to Basketball as you) but it seems to me that when we played one of the strongest nonconference schedules and were ranked high on dificulty list, that we were not rewarded with any better a draw in the big dance. So what do you want them to do?

at 19-11 last year, if you had played the same pre-con schedule as you are this year, you would not have gotten the draw that you did last year. You might not have gotten a high draw, but your pre-con schedule is largely responsible for getting you in the tourney solid, and not on the bubble.

I have followed it closely. By hideous results you mean the couple of teams that lost? Are you including Kentucky looking awful but still winning?

I did not expect any of the teams that lost except Ms State to be great this year. All of the teams I like to be ranked this year still have not lost and have tremendous opportunity in front of them.

Again you may be correct, but if I remember we have gotten some pretty bad draws when we played a rough non-conference schedule and better draws when we played a weak one... just from what I remember, also isn't Kansas on our non conference list this year

Yeah, you have Kansas in there this year. Looks like Purdue also, which will bolster the sos quite a bit. However, (please check it if you can, cause I'm shooting from the hip) I don't think this years SOS in the non conference is nearly as strong as last year.

As for your point, its not an odd occurrence for someone to get a high draw for winning a ton of games on a cup cake schedule, as long as they are in a "BCS" conference. You can get high draws by playing nobody, if you win your conference convincingly.

And I know that the tourney draw means alot, as far as what seed and where you end up playing. But I guess I am more of the mindset that worries about how prepared you are, and how your playing come March. I will take a team anyday with 3 or 4 more losses (and conversly, 2 or 3 wins) in the regular season against top 20 teams, than someone who ran through a pre-con schedule full of cupcakes.

This season with UT ranked as high as they are already, it should not pose a huge threat.

1) dominate your pre-con schedule like you should.

2) beat UK in the conference season.

3) finish with 27-28 wins, and you will get a solid 2 seed.

Just my opinion though. :eek:k:

Thanks Hardwood fanatic... That does seem to make sense to me.. I just remember Memphis and Calapri playing some pretty weak schedules and ending up with a good draw
in the tournament and making it to the final four.

Yes, I included Kentucky. The ESPN gang, who typically lead the national opinion charge, just blistered the SEC last night, even after some of the other surprises.

Campbell actually gets the mascot the Camel from the fact it is the only animal that can go four years without taking a drink...and they have one of the top law schools in NC not too sure a/b their pharmacy school

I went and watched them play football a couple weeks ago and the camel fits. They won't win anything
