This would be a great thread for guys like Mos Def and Tidewarrior and maybe a USC fan if one is out there to chime in with info about their depth charts and what they think is likely in terms of playing time possibilities.
Last year Lane Kiffin told guys that he was willing to play whoever was most talented and most likely to produce regardless of how long they had been in school. In the Western Kentucky game, 10 freshmen played. When Pete Carroll took over at USC and when Nick Saban took over at Alabama, they could offer early playing time because there was not a whole lot on the bench in front of them. While USC still has managed to stock 4 stars who sit on the bench for 2 years, most schools cannot do that and even Florida saw Jevon Snead transfer when he knew that Tebow was going to be the QB of the future.
Realistically TN can promise 1 RB that if they come in this class they can have some playing time. Whether it is Michael Dyer or Giovanni Bernard, someone out there can see that Montario Hardesty is leaving and they will get some carries on the team. They will not come in as a freshman and carry the ball 30 times a game at UT.
Where do you think the top teams can provide early PT?
TN is telling Luc he cannot get it at UF, even though they are losing some guys. I want examples of areas where you know your coaches can promise and deliver early PT.
At TN we have room for 1 impact RB to get PT,
1 QB (Bray) to play as a freshman
1 TE at least with Cottam graduating,
1 WR could see the field very early even with Teague, Warren and Richardson staying put
At LB Rico McCoy the most talented starting LBs graduates and we have no depth to speak of behind him in terms of 4 stars just waiting for their chance. No one is going to be scared of Reveiz. For that matter no Luc level guy or even 4 star LB will be scared of competing for PT with Lathers or King.
On the OL we will literally have our entire starting OL graduating. No one in the country can offer more immediate PT at OL than our school. That is why I think we have a real shot at Stone, and Leifheit and D Robinson or Arie Kouandjio or JaWuan changing his mind and I would not mind seeing us get after Morgan Moses.
DE one opening slot thanks to the draft probably. With J Smith coming in we have a decent class in the making but R Powell should feel he could take snaps away from
Rae Sykes etc. Quarles, Ego I think we get enough at this slot.
DT we lose Brown and Williams plus we are already giving snaps to a freshman this year so we are not deep there at all.
CB we will return starters Evans and Anderson but I do not think they or the backups behind them will scare any of the guys on our board.
Safety, Eric Berry is leaving after this year. Myles and J Jackson are outstanding talents, but I still think we can provide PT to outstanding talent.
There you have it and I would love to see the same from other schools we are competing against for recruits. Honest assessments of whether or not 4 star guys you are recruiting can get on the field at your school next year.
We have more openings for PT on OL and DL and LB than almost any team I can think of and the numbers will bear that out.
