Marlon Brown. I don't expect us to have a top ten recruiting class this year. However it's important to land the #1 instate recruit. Next year I would hope for a top 5 recruiting class. Remember, Tebow, Harvin and Co. were in Meyer's second class.

I'll say this again, this year is not make or break and neither is getting Brown. If we sign 6-9 more players that weren't on the last staff's radar, then that's something to applaud. No more than 2 months on the recruiting trail and we have higher rated players wanting to see our school because of the new staff than 2 years spent with some of the guys developing relationships and failing to get their attention from the old staff. Next year will probably be a Top 5 class.

As much as I would like to have Brown, I think the real test is already being passed on the recruiting front. Go to the recruiting forum and look at the number of highly rated prospects that CLK and company are getting on campus for visits in the short window of time they have had. Also note how many top WRs are looking at us despite the lack of a WR coach at this point.

Then go look at CPF's recruiting class after UT's last losing season (2006 class).

We'll save the real evaluation for next year's class, but I can't fault the work they have done this year considering the circumstances.

Good post...

The momentum that CLK is building at the end of this class will carry over into next year's recruiting. I'd be willing to bet that we will see one of the best classes to ever come to the Hill next year. Imagine what they will be able to do with a full year to recruit as opposed to the two months they have this year.

Well said.

Except that Taj Boyd may be quarterbacking Oregon when they roll in to Neyland in 2010.

Don't fool yourself, Oregon will have a good QB prospect whether it is Taj or someone else. Their facilities and recent success assure that they will find someone to go under center that has the ability to get the job done. Also, Boyd actually fits the Oregon system.

UT fans just have to have faith that CLK can get the team ready for that game, regardless of who Oregon chooses to put under center. If Oregon chooses Boyd, then I fully expect Monte to make them pay for starting a sophomore on the road at a SEC stadium.

And the fact that Nike is in their back yard and they get whatever they want from them.

I think the early litmus test for Kiffin is UCLA @ Knoxville, followed by a litmus test in Gainesville.

Tajh Boyd would not have fit well in Lane's offensive system...why is that so hard to understand?

One sentence can get a Vol fan so fired up in January about a game that is a year and a half away!!!!

That's what being a fan is all about!! LOVE MY VOLS!!!!

Yeah...I think super high expectations out of this recruiting class is nuts. CLK got a tremendously late start on it.

Look out next year though

I would trade keeping Schofield for landing Brown. Brown is no litmus test. He's got an agenda... and that's fine. I don't think he is any more or less likely to sign with UT than he was before the staff changes.

Richt and UGA have impressed him. That would have been true no matter what UT had done. I think he's still a real possibility but he's not a litmus test.

If anything, I'd say Z Mason is the litmus test... Can the new staff find and sign the hidden gems in Tenn.

Tebow was on Meyers first recruiting class at Fla, he had been recruiting him for the Utes

You aren't expecting Kiffin to beat Florida @ Florida next year, are you?

CUM walked into Neyland and won his first year.

Huston Nutt beat UF his first year at Ole Miss.

Its certainly fair to say it could happen, I won't run him out of town if he doesn't though.

I saw someone mentioned Boyd on here. Did you all see that he is the #4 PRO style QB now? THis may be late but I finally saw it on Rivals today
