EA Sports College Football Not to be Released Next Year

True, But it brings in $$$ so why not give it a shot?

...because EA stopped due to lawsuits from players.

Why would any other company possibly think it's a good idea to immediately pick it up and run with it (especially since the NCAA and individual conferences will have nothing to do with it copyrights-wise)

It's sad news to me, still. While the game stopped being as much fun for me as it used to be, it was still my fix for college football gaming. And while I would love a fleshed out, mega customizable football game, it would just not sell with the public. It would be a hardcore niche that it would cater to, and EA nor 2K is prepared I think to go all out for that type of niche.

But because I love dreaming, just imagine:

1.) The ability to setup the specific # of teams, players per team, etc.

2.) Of course, fully-featured editing of players, teams, leagues, conferences, logos, uniforms, stadiums, etc. Playoffs vs. Generic Bowl System

3.) The ability to create multiple or feeder leagues (high school, college, pros all in the same game)

4.) Use of a TeamBuilder type website (this would get shut down, I'm sure due to litigation, but it would be fun for a while.) Even if they blocked trademarked logos, creating a good quality fictional football universe on a "console" would be downright awesome to me.

5.) Historical Database where the game uses your hard-drive to store however much data you want. You could even select the stats to keep track of over time.

6.) A sim engine that is affected by playbooks/schemes where you can establish norms for statistical output. If you want to create a league that does nothing but pass, then have a sim slider or some sort of ratio to affect this. If you want to have nothing but teams that run the triple option, have at it.

7.) Focus on a smooth playing game of football with minimal bugs and strong AI. Not every lighting or surface texture has to be perfect for me, not every animation has to be crisp and clean. Just make it where whatever sliders they create actually work the way they are intended to work, so you can tweak the gameplay to your style or the style of the "brand" of football you are building.

I know, ya'll can pinch me whenever. That's just what I want on my console. I don't want to do a text sim, I want to play a good game of football just one time in my life where I can also build the universe from the ground up. All my money to any gaming company that can take the financial loss to give me this.

Someone will definitely swoop in and fill the void - just may not happen next year.

Pretty rough story here from Owen Good about EA letting the NCAA production team go. Was interesting to read that they were "planning" on a robust customization suite in the future. Personally, I'm not sure about all that. It probably is much easier to say what you may have *wanted* to do or tell people what they *wanted* to hear when it's all said and done, but still, if they had been able to get to this point imagine the future of college football gaming.

Very sad to hear. Im a DIE hard CFB gaming fan and its goin to stink not having a college game next year but in the long run when/if it returns the game will be new and fresh....honestly i think its done. If someone does try n pick up the game itll be stale becuz they will be starting from scratch....
R.I.P Ncaa Football gaming gone but never forgotten!

We all knew once the basketball game got the shaft it was only a matter of time till the football game got it too. The football games were fun but they were only adding content to each game, not ever fixing core errors which really held them back.
