I have a Motorola DVR that I got from my cable company and I'm trying to record what I'm watching to my laptop so I can make DVDs. I found some instructions on how to do it online at DCT6412 Firewire capture and HD/SD to DVD guide, but for some reason the audio did not transfer. Is there anyone here that can tell me what I may be doing wrong.

Are you recording to a .ts file? Are you using vlc (video lan client) to play the file?

Most likely the audio is there, you just aren't getting the playback.

If both are yes, search for hdtvtompeg2 and use it to fix the stream by selecting the file and click process. Make sure your output file is a ts also.

Another way to tell if the audio is working would be to test using a live stream from your cable box and see if it has audio. You can do this using vlc player (video lan client). It's free.

I'm using CapDVHS and I am recording to a .ts file. I am then using hdtvtompeg2 to convert the .ts to a mpeg. But after rereading the instructions it looks like I should be using the hdtvtompeg2 to just edit out the commercials and have .ts as the output as well and use HDTV2DVD to put it on in DVD format. Is that correct?

Sounds right. You also just need to play that raw .ts file and see if you are getting audio first (at least I would).
