I saw one of the sickest dunks I've ever seen in my life. During a scrimmage against the scout team (acting as Vanderbilt for today) Scotty Hopson drove hard to the basket and I figured he was going to shoot a little floater, but he rised up and dunked on Phillip Jurick in a way that reminded me of the NBA playoffs in the early 90's when Kevin Johnson dunked on Hakeem Olajuwon.

The whole gym went bananas and it was nice to see the players have that sort of comaradarie together.

We practiced really hard today on getting our conditioning back and shot a ton of free throws. They hit the majority of them today, even after being winded which is a good sign.

I'm honestly surprised Hopson was able to do that - it obviously wasn't a clean nuts in the face dunk but rather a Tyler Smith over Steven Hill type dunk (kinda off to the side over his shoulder type dunk) I'm sure. Jurick is 6'11 255ish.. you can't just jump over him and he's a shot blocking specialist.

Jurick looked embarrassed, but that was because the whole team was reacting like when someone gets dunked on in And 1.

Other than getting dunked on, Jurick scrimmaged suprisingly well.

Anyone with video? Scotty has impressed, at times, late in the year. I hope we have a decent run in the tourneys, but I really look forward to seeing him next year.

Much of Scotty's issue appears to be confidence. Even though he was an all american in HS. Sometimes when you go to something new, its just hard to adjust, and you can't even really find a exact answer for it. For me, even though I was a great student in college, adjusting to work has been very difficult, especially from a confidence point of view. I imagine Scotty is the same way. He will break out completely before he leaves here.

a dunk is way more affect on a team then a simple lay up it gets the team and the fans going or kills the fans if ur away... i would rather see a big jam then a player just goin in for a lay up its a huge momentum swing

This doesn't seem to make sense considering Hopson was an i'm lovin it all-american, but it doesn't appear that he realizes his capabilities. Countless times I've seen him standing at the three point line content to pass the ball back and forth with Maze. He'll be doing this even though he could easily blow past the guy guarding him and take it straight to the rack for a dunk, a point blank lay-in, a drawn foul, or a dish to an open teammate. I honestly believe that he could do that at will against 90% of the guys who end up guarding him.

Perhaps it is too late in the season to do this, but if I were Pearl, I would pull Scotty aside one night and tell him "You are scoring 30 points tonight. This is not a request. This is a demand. And you will acquire those 30 points by taking the ball the rack two times for every one jumpshot you take."

And I think Scotty could actually do this. And I think it would allow him to realize how good he can be.

I also wish he would shoot the three when he's open. He's passing up on open outside shots even though he has one of our highest percentages. This would open up his drives even more.
