This is getting out of hand - in a good way. I saw this post after reading the short thread on the JUCO guard. We don't have room for all of the great recruits that we might be able to get.

someone said if Scott wants to commit, the staff probably wont hesitate and take it. Says the talent drop off from him and Cheek is zero.

I think that Cheek is a hell of a lot better prospect than Scott. They are about similar athletically while Scott can't shoot and Cheek is a lights out shooter.

I am telling you, if Scott wanted to commit (which he is favoring UCONN right now), it would be based on Cheek more than likely. This is my opinion but Cheek >> Scott is fact.

Also, at least half of the people that discuss basketball, literally have no clue what they are talking about. I have been on Volquest for about 2 years now and some people are clueless. NYCvol, gvt, flvol77, and some other knows their stuff but some people just make ridiculous claims. I don't read this board enough to know who is who... I think midfielder and hatvol know their stuff based off first impressions.

Midfielder is a prick. So if Scott went up to Bruce and said he wanted to commit, you think we would turn him away based on Cheek still being in play?

If he thought we were going to land Cheek then yes. If he thought we had a chance, it would depend on how great of a chance... if it was small then yes we would probably take Scott.

if you had a chance at JJ Hickson, would you back off of JT Blair? Pearl has already done that...

If you had a chance at Elliott Williams, would you back off every other potential SG prospect? Pearl has already done that...

Josh Sibert? Pearl backed off of him for McRae.

Just because you can get a good prospect, sometimes you back off or won't accept a commitment if you are going after someone better or think you have a good shot of landing him. I don't know how good of a shot Pearl thinks we have with Cheek but I don't think you can say we would definitely take a commitment.

Maybe midfielder is bad? I don't really know, I haven't read this place too much.

I just watched a couple of videos of Scott and Cheek and it isn't close. Cheek is more athletic, a better finisher, and is a great shooter. His form is close to perfect. The only thing Scott really has is he is a better passer and possibly a better defender (although there isn't much defense on highlight videos).

I mean Cheek hit 2 threes from about 2 feet behind the NBA 3pt line in the 4th quarter of a very close all-star game and you really think Pearl would completely give up on the guy if Scott wanted to commit on spot? I highly doubt it... I really want to land Cheek after doing a little bit of research. If he is out of the question, I would probably want Scott next and then Mitchell but all 3 are great players and have their pros and cons.

I'm just not sure we have a good enough chance with Cheek to truly turn away Scott. I would honestly give us a 5% chance at Cheek.

Yea I would definitely take Cheeks over Scott only because Cheeks is a great shooter, as far as the athleticism i would take either one but Cheeks is the better athlete but I dont think there is much of a drop off of athleticism between the two.. The reason that I personally would take Scott is because of two things, 1) I really believe Cheeks is going somewhere up north and 2) Durand Scott fits the basketball personality that Bruce is looking for.. He wants players that when they look at you, you turn the other way and Scott is that type of player

I agree with that but who knows, Bruce does surprise us a lot.

I just don't think it is a given like most on here act but I don't like our chances with Cheek either.

Good - he will likely see a win. I doubt the result itself of a football game impacts the decision of a basketball recruit, but at least there will likely be a positive mood on campus that day when he is here.
