Republicans Trying to Start a Civil War in Texas

“Arrested” vs, “Civil War.

Please. Spare me your sense of linguistic superiority.
Heh. The Democrats who've left the state aren’t breaking any criminal or state laws, so good luck seeking their interstate extradition from the states they’re holed up in.

In this polar political climate, gerrymandering in Texas prior to midterms ain't something left-leaning folks there want or will likely tolerate.

What will be interesting is if enough Dems stay in those swge states and cities until the deadline to file to run for Congress passes... and the feds or the legislature tries to change the deadline ...

What would be interesting is if you could EVER point to your critisim of gerrymandering when Dems did it. But you never have and are just the most constant hypocrite on this board

Guess what the national response is inevitably going to be? Democrats being forced to gerrymander their states. This whole thing is stupid political theater.
This.

The outcome of the political battle over Texas’ redistricting effort is already having major implications across the country.

Other Republican-dominated states are considering following Texas’ lead as Democratic governors weigh their options to retaliate with their own mid-decade redistricting efforts.

Republican efforts: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently floated the idea of a mid-cycle redistricting in his state, telling reporters in July, “I think the state malapportioned.”
Ohio is required to redraw its congressional districts this fall because the 2022 map was struck down as unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court.

Punchbowl News reported the White House is pushing Missouri to redraw its districts to target one of just two Democratic-held seats, that of Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, in a state where the GOP holds the other six House seats. The White House has also urged Indiana to redraw districts in which Democrats hold two of nine seats.

Democrats pushing back: Meanwhile, Democratic governors in deep-blue states are plotting retribution. The governors of California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey and New York have suggested they will explore redrawing their own congressional district maps to add more Democratic-leaning seats, or have left the door open to doing so.
The redistricting battles cannot carry on without deadlines. In many states, including Texas, candidates must file for next year’s primary ballots before the end of this year.

I'd be cool if we just did not include illegals. Don't know why anyone would be for it.

Agree. Elon Musk should be prohibited from voting in Texas

President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday his administration will "have to take a look" at deporting Elon Musk after the billionaire reignited the feud with the president over his spending bill.

Elon Musk is an illegal and counting towards congressional seats? Or did you just post something stupid?

Look above.

I said the GOP has the right to gerrymander.

My criticism is of the forcing of Dems to be there to allow it.

I wonder if that means they will move back to Cali?

Guest host Phil Mattingly asked, “One of the things that’s been raised, particularly for you and some of your colleagues that have gone to Illinois, is Illinois isn’t exactly a nonpartisan district-by-district state. It’s quite a gerrymandered state towards the Democratic side, was, just a couple of years ago, signed into law by the current Gov., JB Pritzker (D). How do you respond to people who point that out?”

Garcia responded, “Well, I think that the actions he took are within their constitution, within their right. That is very different from what is taking place in the state of Texas. So, I think we all need to process that and understand the difference. This is illegal.”

We'll see if that holds up in contravention of the First and Fourth Amendments.

Serious question. If the judicial branch of the government can compel attendance and issue arrest warrants for failure to comply why can’t the legislative? Yes, I do realize a judge would have to sign the warrants.

They have a First Amendment right of expression not to appear so as so block a quorum. Forcing them to be there violates that right.

What's next? If they vote against the redistricting plan they can be arrested ? Expelled ? What's the difference between that and being forced to be there when their way of expressing their position is not to be there...

Arresting them would be a constitutionally unreasonable seizure under the Fourth Amendment, for the same reason.

And if an effort were made to take them into custody out of state, beyond the reach of Texas law enforcement, it would be that much worse. God forbid Trump directs federal officials to get involved.

I 100% agree with you on the Feds staying out of it, I just wish you were consistent in your convictions.

I guess making Texas as sh***y and corrupt as possible is one way to deter people from migrating there, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Texas has been a sh^tty and corrupt state for decades and it hasn’t stopped the migration yet.
