I am surprised at the degree to which that mentality still permeates their program. I know that Alabama struggled with it for a while after Bear retired, but they finally snapped out of it once Saban came along, and none of the criticism of DeBoer seems to revolve around "he isn't who Bear or Saban would have wanted."
It is strange at UNC because they've had coaches post-Smith who have had success, Roy Williams of course being the most. It isn't like they are the Lady Vols, or Alabama until they hired Saban.
