Is there still a chance he is redshirting?

As far as I can tell if Darlinstone stays under the limit of games played this year he can take the COVID waiver year. He’s played 4 full seasons, the waiver allows a 6 year clock to play 4, and the 2020-21 season doesn’t count against the 4. He would be the final UT player to use the waiver unless Igor or Chaz elect to redshirt before exceeding the limit on games played this season. Obviously Chaz won’t and Igor is highly unlikely to go in that direction.

Until he plays in six or seven games. That’s when he’ll move past the threshold.
Thought that was a proposed rule change that didn’t get approved and they blow an entire season if they play in one game still? Did I miss something?

I loved his tape and thought he was the underrated signing of this class. Can shoot the 3 really well. Hopefully he can carve out a nice role. His appearance could take this team over the top.

Since it was reported he was struggling to adapt to this level/system even before he stepped away, going to be tough for him to get on the floor.

I wouldn’t count him out yet. He struggled earlier this Summer, but was improving quite a lot over the last few weeks. Barnes requires attendance at several consecutive practices when a player sits out. He’ll get some light minutes soon.

Not sure whose minutes he would take. I’m really liking the progress of the 3 sophomores and hope they continue to settle in and demand more PT.
The most obvious choice is Cade. I don't think Cade is a good fit with Estrella or Okpara due to the spacing concerns. He's also not really big enough to guard most 5s, particularly in the SEC. He fits well with Igor, and we could certainly play him over Estrella depending on the matchup.

I think he's a 4 in our system like JJJ was, but I guess he could play the 3. In that case it would be over Carr, but I like Carr.

Agree to disagree as I like Cade a lot

I don't think he's as good as Estrella. I think Cade is solid, but we could certainly use the spacing. Cade's game is just limited. He's only really a pick and roll guy, which is already what Okpara does. JP as well, but he has at least somewhat of a post game in addition. Essentially we have 3 guys that do the same thing, but two of them have far better size for a post.

I have high hopes for both Cade and Carr but was disappointed to see that they did not put on much weight in the off season. Physicality looks limited for SEC play.
