DT Patrick Harris is the newest commitment

Ed Orgeron noted as one of the best defensive line coaches in the country picked up another defensive lineman commitment when Patrick Harris of Chabot Junior College made his decision.

“Yes I made a verbal pledge to Tennessee,” Harris told InsideTennessee.com recently. “I’m very excited about playing for the Volunteers. They have assembled a great coaching staff and they have the program headed in the right direction.”

Harris, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive tackle, is expected to contribute early for the Vols.

“They are telling me that they need me to come in right away to help out on the defensive front,” Harris said. “I really like Coach Orgeron a lot; he is one of the best in the business.”

Harris played defensive tackle for Chabot in 2008 and he said the quickness he has for a man his size and his motor are what set him apart.

"I'm strong and I'm quick," Harris said. "The coaches said they like my motor and how I'm always going and I never quit."

Harris hasn't maxed out on any of his lifts recently, but he did manage to post a hand-timed 4.9 40 time at 295 recently.

Looks like we're just gonna focus on winning games by playing good defense, running the football, and having a serviceable Matt Mauck type QB.

Build it,and they will come!!!! All recruits see the turn around and commitment to being the best. That's the difference in getting mediocre, journeyman, coaches and going out getting the the 2007 and the 2008 Recruiters of the Year in CEO and CLT. All we need to do is sure up the offense.

It's good to finally get some good news. This BJ stuff has ran it's course. Let's get some offensive players to commit. We got 3 Defensive players so far. I'm waiting on OL.

I agree. Some good news is certainly welcome. Even if it is in the form of a 300lb Doogie Howser.

Well today we got some good new and some bad news...
That being said, coach O will turn our front four into monsters! We will have a dominant Dline and soon.

Please. Orgeron is the best in the biz

seriously. If there's 1 guy I would trust to evaluate a DL it's him. He's also high on Hughes who was not very highly rated when the previous staff grabbed him

So, should this be considered a soft verbal rather than a commitment? He says "verbal pledge" in the article...
