Was listening to 98.1 this morning and they played this long clip of why this guy hates tennessee. then they started reading from that clay travis article about it fans being number 10 worst fan base. after that they go on about how hard it is to get bama tickets and how you see people with thier ugly orange flags , and bout florida owning tennessee. i emailed them and said , funny how short term bama fans memory is. not long ago they was way worse than ut is now. and that bama fans were worse than ut fans, most of them cant name anyone on the team.....


Please butch jones bring us back.

yesterday though they were talking about the good things going on in Knoxville and how CBJ would bring back tennessee because he's a good coach.


that clip radio stations here play is annoying. the "I hate tennesee, well first of all because it's tennessee" clip

Yea they usually play the short version of that clip. But today they played the full version. Said that neyland looks like a garbage dump and that our colors were pumpkin puke orange and we was sore losers.
My morning started off bad then I heard this. Just pissed me off. I mean you live in Tennessee , how are you gonna hate UT. Does everyone in Knoxville hate the grizzlies?

well people in memphis hate it that we're better than tiger high in everything (FB, academics, but basketball not as much). It's an instate rivalry so of course they're jealous and hate UT. I hate memphis so I understand.


Grizzlies don't have an instate rival in Knoxville and besides they're pretty new to Memphis. very different situations imo


In any event, there is a huge Vol alumni (and fans that didn't attend) in Memphis (as I'm sure your aware) and I see lots of orange power Ts on cars and liscense plates and people at stores and places wearing UT gear

We're about to be on top soon so we'll become more hated by UofM fans and "cooler" with those that aren't as hardcore UT fans and by bandwaggoners looking for a good team to cheer for

Yea I smell what your stepping in. Makes sense. But Memphis football sucks. Why not root for your state football team. But I guess other sec schools are closer to Memphis than Knoxville. It won't be long till we give em something to really hate us for

So true! They hate us because of our success and their failures. They have been waiting so long for us to go down and have hard times. It also really bothered them that we started being as good or better in basketball. Just a few years ago they were very quiet, now very annoying. I used to not care much either way about memphis, now I hate them almost as much as bamer.
Also, yes there are a ton of Vol fans here and when we get back to our winning ways it's gonna blow up again. It's just the memphis media that does this stupid crap. They hate UT and either say nothing about UT or something negative even though its the largest football fan base in the area.

If I am not mistaken, we have a winning record against Memphis State in basketball as well. If not, it is close.

absolutely. If an outsider heard only the stuff the media says, they would probably assume that the whole city of Memphis (and suburbs) hates Tennessee which is not even close to being true

Volnation is all throughout the Memphis region and IMO has some of the more hardcore Vol fans since we brush up against more rival fan bases that have fans/alumni in the memphis area


I am a student at UT currently and it's funny because I meet people from Knoxville who don't understand why my friends and I from here dislike memphis (the school) so much. But people in knoxville have to put up with alot more Vtech and UNC (and other area schools) stuff than I'm used to being from memphis

Yea I go at it at least once a week with a bama fan. The look on thier face when I ask who was coach before Saban is priceless

Memphis sports media has always been about the old Memphis State Tigers football & basketball programs. Everyone knows that they are nothing but losers but the media tries it's best every year to pump up the local support for their home team Tigers. Yes, you have TN Vols fans & Arkansas fans & even a Bama fan or two. But that's because of where Memphis is located. Memphis wants to be it's own little state & not have claims to any state because of it's own arrogance of being such a big city. In West Tennessee, there's nothing bigger than TN Vols football because of the History of TN's winning record over the Tigers or Vandy or MTSU. The only reason I see if a recruit goes to the Memphis Tigers or even to Bama or Arkansas is because of where the location of that recruit lives or let's say closer to home so family can see them play.
