From KNS this morning - a comparison of Mark Jones' statistics compared to Charles Woodson's the year he stole the Heisman. I thought it was interesting, especially considering how low Jones is predicted to go in the draft...

Are his numbers really that different than the statistics former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson posted in 1997 prior to turning pro?

Woodson, like Jones, played offense, defense and special teams for the Wolverines. In all, he was in on 765 plays: 613 on defense, 69 on offense and 83 on special teams.

Jones was in on 662 plays for the Vols during the regular season: 208 on defense, 384 on offense and 70 on special teams.

Woodson, a cornerback, had 43 tackles, one sack, seven interceptions and five pass break-ups.

Jones, who played in the Vols' nickel and dime packages, had 20 tackles, two interceptions and three pass break-ups.

Now, a look at the offensive numbers.

Woodson had three carries for 15 yards and a touchdown, and 11 catches for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones had seven carries for 65 yards and 36 catches for 556 yards and five touchdowns.

Finally, special teams.

Woodson had 32 punt returns for 283 yards (8.84 per return) and a touchdown.

Jones had 20 punt returns for 303 yards (15.15 per return)

No doubt it's all about media hype these days.
