Draft lottery

NBA didn't own the Bulls.

This is what makes it look bad. Everything could very well have been on the up and up, but on the other hand, the NBA already meddled with the Hornets business earlier in the season when they blocked the CP trade to the Lakers.

The league technically stills owns the Hornets.

Also, Bill Simmons thinks this was part of the deal to get Tom Benson to buy the Hornets. He gets a superstar.

I really want to be a bigger fan of the NBA, but it's ish like this (along with the officiating) that keep me detached.

All it takes to make the perception that the lottery is fixed go away is to put two sportswriters in the room for the whole process -- one from ESPN, one from a competing and independent company (CBS, SI, Yahoo, etc.). Let them watch the whole thing. Let them write what they see.

The fact that Stern doesn't do something as obvious and simple as that when he knows that everybody worries about the lottery being fixed tells us that yeah, the lottery really is probably fixed.

I can totally see Stern rubbing his hands together thinking to himself, "It'll seem like such an obvious fix that people will say it couldn't have been a fix."
