Any body else wonder how we have started turning top 5 recruiting classes in to 3-4 second day draft picks?

I mean there are schools that aren't even a blip on the radar coming in, that have more NFL talent going out.....

We used to be big in NFL for our lineman and recievers.....Now...not so much.

Will this trend continue>?

Eventually it will turn recruits off to coming here, part of the appeal of Tennessee is a NFL training ground....

We should start getting alot more Canadians committing since thats where I boys seem to end up. Or Hey maybe Arena fans.

If a recruit wants to come to Tennessee only as a means to get to the NFL, I don't want him putting on the uniform. I want him playing because he wants to be a Vol.

If that's what you want, we should simply recruit the All KFL team and be done with it. You win with elite talent. Elite talent wants to play in the NFL. It's that simple. You think Reggie Bush went to LA for the love of dear ole' SC? You think Vince Young spent nights dreaming of playing for the glory of Texas? Get real. You can have all the guys who dream of playing at UT. I'll take the great talent with NFL aspirations.

yeah....though there is a fine line some of these high profile recurits cross sometimes...when it becomes a me thing instead of a team thing...i want all the next level talent i can get too, but not someone, i.e. kelly washington, that is ONLY there for NFL reasons....

any of these kids that are that good that go to the high profile programs are there for that reason....they go to those schools based on the types of systems they run, how much they are on TV, coaching staffs, history for getting people drafted etc....

bottom line, it's a selling point. a sellign point we have to have. and while they're here, if they're really NFL worthy, it's to their benefit to have a team mentality.....look at the successful temas in the NFL these days...the Pats, Panthers, Steeleres, Seahawks to name afew, they place high value on good character and knowing your role on the TEAM, as well as having the talent to play....

I would like to see the best come here with a desire to win a national championship for the big orange with aspirations of playing well enough to turn pro. To me, college is a springboard to turn pro, just like the minor league farm system in baseball.

still 4 top 5 classes we should have had more pro's then this. This proves that we aren't developing talent as we should, or those players were overrated to begin with. I wonder how well Sanders could evaluate players. If you notice almost none of the offensive guys panned out but almost all of the defensive guys were picked up.

You don't think a player can have aspirations to do both?
Sure they can. I simply don't care if they grew up dreaming of playing for the Big Orange. I care about talent. If they grew up wanting to play for UT, good for them. It means nothing to me.

Sure they do, but to think that every prospect that signs with UT signs with the intention of bringing glory to UT just for the sake of doing so because they love UT so much, is not feasible. It's to their benefit for them to do so, it's to their benefit if it happens, but the larger goal for the kids that have that kind of talent is to go to the NFL....everything that happens before then, is resume building.

Kelly Washington was a primary contributor on a team that just missed playing for the National Championship. His lack of productivity in his second year was attributable to injury. I'll take that kind of talent all day long.

all true, but his attitude was deplorable..and was not good in the locker room....i'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're a Terrell Owens fan?

Not really. He's not a good teammate. I don't remember Kelly Washington publicly ripping his QB.

This was the worst draft for us in a while but we still had a first rounder. Until this year, we've been pacing college football as one of the top contributors of NFL players (along with Miami, FSU, etc.)

I would hardly look at this year's draft as a "state of the program" event.

There's a big difference between sending impact players to the NFL and placing guys on rosters. We haven't put any big time impact players in the league in the last few drafts. Witten is the last Pro Bowl quality player and that was the '03 Draft.

huh, i don't either...i just remember all the "i" and "me" talk....never heard a lot of "we" and "us" out of KW....there's a certain amount of confidence and cockiness i want in our players, I think you have to have a little of that in you to be that good....if you don't believe you're that good, then how are ever going to get there?

but not at the expense of spearating the locker room etc.....

I'll take the atitude displayed by Miami and SC over a bunch of false modesty all day. I don't care what a player says. If they back it up, they can proclaim themselves a Football Messiah for all I care.

I always liked KW. He probably talked too much, but I think a lot of fans used that "future" stuff to make him a scapegoat for the injury riddled 2002 team.

Injuring his neck had a lot more to do with it than any comments to the media. It's typical of UT fans. They want their players all "Golly Gee, I'm just happy to help UT." Guys who speak their mind, Carl Pickens, Kelly Washington, Jamal Lewis, etc., get crucified. Guys who play the "I'll be fan friendly game," Peyton Manning, Heath Shuler, etc., get deified. There's a not so subtle variable there.

Let's be honest. He didn't fit the "image" UT fans want. It's the same reason so many Vol fans hate the "U" so much. They hate to see people that don't look and act like them succeed.

Tennessee is very much a blue collar state, we like the hard worker quiet type. While in flashy places like Miami they like flashy players. It all depends on the area you are in.

That may be true to some extent, but I think Wins mean a lot more to most people than "subtle variables". Whenever we start losing, people are always irrationally searching for someone to blame.

I don't think it is completely the subtle variable, the folks on this board don't generally care much for the Vanilla Ice twins that played QB either.

They hate to hear people like that talk about success that never comes to fruition. Arrogance is usually tolerated if supported by ability and the production of RESULTS.
