Down to Four Candidates for HC (Speculation)

I agree, preferred Petersen but each of these guys has a pretty good resume except Steele. I just don't see how you hire him at 59 after he bombed at Baylor. JMO

I think Petersen was always a pipe dream. He has pretty much spent his entire coaching career on the west coast, except for one year at Pitt where he was QB coach in 1992. Had multiple offers from big name schools while he was at Boise and turned them down. If he was going to be a candidate it would have to be the right fit for him.

FWIW, they fired Currie because he took a Kansas State booster's plane to hire Leach, after he had been called back to Knoxville for a meeting.

I heard Steel is out.
Also hearing Tucker seems to be the favorite.
Wheww....Pathetic

Have you looked at his resume?

Current DC at UGA. Can't deny the improvement there in just two years.

2015- AHC and DB coach for Bama's NC team. If he can get UT DB's to play like Bama DB's... A LOT OF PROBLEMS will be solved.

From 2005 to 2012, he worked in the NFL mostly as a DC. He was briefly an interim HC.

He has the right pedigree. He's had the right influences from both a coaching and recruiting perspective. He has the right experience.

He could be the biggest of all homerun hires.

PS- the promotion of defensive coaches though not usually as flashy seems to be producing more success than offensives coaches.

Venables, in my opinion, is the equivalent of Kirby..
Georgia fans are freaking out at the thought of Mel Tucker coming to Tennessee.
I'd be fine with either.

The other two, I'd be pretty let down.

Read some stuff about Morris, pretty impressive. Steele, no thanks

Love Venables! Not certain about the rest of them. Steele is a nice coordinator, but HC at Tennessee seems like a stretch.

Morris is a good coach, but it seems like their should be better options.

Tucker did a great job with the GA D this year. However, a one year sample isn't much and seems like a big risk compared to Venables, who seems poised to be an excellent HC.

one of those years he was the vision behind the worst defense in the 97-year history of the Chicago Bears.

Pretty easy to see why they wont even look at Leach . He is a wild card and hard to control. He would have run a spread type offense and doesn't have a reputation of being a defensive minded guy. Not traditional Tenn. I think its a mistake. I think he would have been a great hire and could win with less talent a lot quicker than the others. Just an opinion.

Please, no more Revolutions or Pitchforks. Let the drama end. I'm personally more excited for the future of vol football now than I was last week or throughout this entire season.

I've never been a proponent of hiring Tee, even as OC. But I also never thought this is what our list would look like. Instead of facing certain mediocrity with Morris or Steele, we might as well just gamble it all w Tee. Ugh

I'll would love to have Tucker or Venables I think they can give UT the FB identity they are looking for. We would have an attacking style that fans would like.
