Does anybody remember Doug Roth TN BB center. I remember growing up seeing a game on national TV and him throwing the bird to the opposing fans . My question is anyone know what happened to him after he played one season in the NBA.

Don't know, but in Little League BB, he lined drived a ball to me at second, that hit me in the knee, and I dropped like a rock...

not my best fielding effort

I remember his girl standing on a bar stool beside him at the Last Lap. She was still waaay shorter than he was, but she made up for her lack of height by being pretty nice. She was possibly under 5 ft.

Don't know what happened to him after the NBA.

He went to Knox Karns. His girlfriend was a cheerleader at Karns. She was around 5'2" or so. Believe she was the head cheerleader. If she wasn't, she should have been...especially when standing next to Doug. :)

Thats so funny You posted that because the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the title thread was a picture of him and his girlfriend walking down the strip to the lap and she came up to about his hip :eek:lol: Both were nice people.

Doug was blind in one eye. He was a McDonald's All American coming out of high school. One of the few UT ever had. Never quite lived up to his hype.

The fans in the game I was talking about where he shot the crowd a bird they were yelling glass eye. Doug came down the court hit a turn around jumper and went down the court with both hands in the air shooting the opposing fans two birds. All this happened on national TV.

Roth played at Karns and I think Karns either has or had a player named Roth in the last couple of years, so it is possible that that player was/is related to Roth.

This is my 1st memory of UT Basketball. I remember the game as a kid. I thought he had hit a 3 pointer and flipped the student section off for chanting "cyclopse." He did recieve a technical foul from what I remember.

I remember the goggles, and he would always inbound the ball. I was playing Jr. Pro BBall and I was a big awkward center and I always wanted to inbound the ball like Roth. It used to piss off the guards.

Can't speak for the now, but about six years ago he was living in Martin, TN. My daughter and his were in kindergarten together. I had no idea he was her dad until he brought her to my kid's birthday party (at which point it was immediately obvious.) Hard to miss a seven footer at a 5 year old's party.
