he is on the sports reporter show on 104.5 Nashville now, which precedes Big Orange Sunday. Doug just suggested the possibility that B.J. Coleman may not get a shot to play this year because if he comes in and does well it will just make the staff look even worse than they already do.

Doug said he will talk more on this subject on Big Orange Sunday at 10am CST.

Doug also opined that the staff may just want to reward upperclassmen with playing time while they still can.

There's really not much left to play for, except that the Richmond coaches could use the last couple of games to audition for new jobs if they are allowed a free hand to run the offense.

The whole offense is a trainwreck. The qb's are bad, but the plays that are being called are worse. O-Line plays like sissy's and there isn't a wide receiver on the team that strikes fear in nobody. Leave bj alone, he can't help this putrid offense. Its a joke and a embarrassment to anyone that gives a damn about UT football.

At this point I think it is better Coleman doesn't play. With our line and receivers it would only destroy his confidence the way Stephens has been. Just save Coleman for the new staff.

Barnhart on Big Orange Sunday with Matthews right now. Tony says Butch Davis is THE best candidate for the UTK job.

His question about Mike Leach is whether Leach would fit in the Tennessee culture.

Tim Brewster is a great recruiter but not on the same level as Davis and Leach.

Now comes the other shoe. Reasons Butch will not come per Doug and Tony:

1. His age
2. He can win 9 games a year and be king of North Carolina.

Leach wouldn't fit the culture but he'd win football games. Butch davis is the best fit. No way they're going to pay butch more than roy. I say we buy him and move on.

People who make this argument are crazy. The premier coaches want the big spotlight and want the big challenge. There aren't any elite coaches that shy away from pressure and want to stay somewhere because it has lower expectations. Also, I think Butch (if he stays at NC) is going to win a lot more than 9 games/year.

Butch will never be king at North Carolina. Roy Williams laughs at the thought.

The king of North Carolina is always a basketball coach. Moreover, I'm thinking Butch would rather compete on the national scene.

Butch may be a good fit, however, I would not get your hopes up too high. Butch knows the score in Chapel Hill, he will always play second fiddle to Roy. From the way he is talking on the sports radio station in Charlotte, he seems to be fine with it. Also, Butch is not a long term solution. What will stop him from leaving UTK after a 2 years to go somewhere else?

Who cares? He'll leave us with a loaded roster so the next coach can immediately expect to compete with Florida and Alabama.

Exactly right, the reasoning that UT doesn't hire BD because he may leave in a few years and we do this all over again makes zero sense. He leaves the program light years from where it is now, and we get any coach we want because of that. As fans we watch our program get better each week and compete every week, which is all we want anyway.

King of North Carolina? Is that like being the tallest midget?

And they will not pay Butch Davis more than Roy Boy makes...

Fitting the culture is a stupid statement. If the culture is losing and getting worse who wants a coach who fits the culture? Bruce Pearl got it, coaches who want to be the head coach at a program like UT need to be creating culture not bending to it.

Doug just stated that he knew Clemson had contacted Fulmer about their job.

Now that would be funny to have Fulmer face Cutcliff. We would then see if the records were really true. The evidence shows that Fulmer's record was much better when he had Cutcliff on staff.

Anybody want to bet on Fulmer going to Clemson

Are you betting agianst him going to Clemson or betting he ends up at Clemson?

I think he has a strong chance "IF," and this is a big if, he gives them a sign that he has interest in the job. I think he will have interest in coaching again, but it might not be there right now. Clemson is looking for someone who is interested right now and not someone who is 50/50 on wanting to coach again.
