Doug Matthews says more offensive staff changes expected

Just over 20 years ago, Fulmer lost his best recruiter, Rodney Garner,to UGa.. While we recruited very well for the next 5=6 years, we never recruited as well as we did with Rodney here. He still haunts us when we go head to head with him for a player. I do not think he will let Neids get away if money is the problem. Johnson was an outstanding recruiter and we lost him to FSU and it was not about money. We can not afford to lose Neids if we want to be competitive with UGa and UF in the future. We need more talented players and the recruiters to get them. However, we need coaches who can also teach the game. We have to have a good mix to be successful in the future. Look at what happen when Pruitt left Alabama. They still recruit 4-5 stars on defense, but their defense is no where near where it was under Pruitt.

Weinke has not been the recruiter I expected and the QB position has not been well coached in the last 2 years. Weinke needs to earn his keep.

Wasn't the whole point of Weinke coming on board was to do a steady pull of IMG Academy players? That doesn't seem to have happened.

We are signing good OL and the ones on campus are improving noticeably. Not sure why we would mess with that at the most developmental position in football.

This, especially since Chaney took over a few OL practice sessions last year and showed Friend how he wanted it done.

Things might get more interesting. It appears we could lose more coaches besides David Johnson.

From Midday 180: “I anticipate more changes than just the running back coach off of this offensive staff for Tennessee.”- Doug Mathews

Who's next? Hard to see Chaney leaving. Tee just turned down Ole Miss. Friend is tight with Pruitt. Niedermeyer, there are the rumors about Texas A&M. Weinke maybe?

Jim Chaney - Offensive Coordinator
Tee Martin - Assistant Head Coach/Passing Game Coordinator/Wide Receivers
Will Friend - Offensive Line
Brian Niedermeyer - Tight Ends
Chris Weinke - Quarterbacks
I say bump Weinke out and give Neids more money. Give the Qb’s to TEE and bring a big time Receivers coach that young kids love and get WRU back on the map...!!!!!! VFL

I think we probably lose someone on the defense.

Chaney is staying unless he just doesent like working with Pruitt. I know how dumb it sounds but it’s possible.
Tee Martin could get a OC spot at a smaller school as OC. Isn’t he carrying Assistant HC though?
Will Friend: I could see this with the issues his group had through out the year
Neids: this is going to happen sooner rather than later. He’ll want to prove himself at positions other than TE. Fulmer needs to do everything he can short of going Barnes and get him to stay.
Weinke: He does better in the pros in my opinion. With a completely empty in Carolina I expect him to get a call at the very least. He’s got history there and done a lot of things well.
Maybe he gets opportunity at RBs or Special Teams. Don't think we can afford to groom him for QB right now. I do believe Chaney would do a great job mentoring Nieds or Weinke to coach other positions.

In an article today on The Athletic, it was said that the Tee to ole Miss talk was not quite dead yet. FWIW.

Needs to be Weinke. None of the QBs looked good and doesn't seem to add much in recruiting.
