Are there really those here that are still calling for a 4-win season from Tennessee?! After the O&W game, it seems that all the Doomsday Vol Fans have come out. The team will be just fine and it wouldn't surprise me if the team finished with a better record that last year's squad. There are too many weapons on this team not to win a fair number of games--especially on offense. Even if we back our way into a few of them, we will be a good team. While it is still true that defense wins championships, a good offense will win you an number of games. Not to mention the great D-line that's shaping up, the secondary that shined yesterday, and special teams that CDD is determined to make priority. The O-line will come....and if it is not as soon as many would like, I'm confident that CDD will put together a much more organized and detailed scheme to play to the team's abilities (i.e. lining Bray up in the shotgun, screen passes, flare outs for Poole, quick west coast posts for our big receivers...). We will be okay...it's not quite time for Doomsday yet!

Is the consensus that if our offense scores 20+ again this year we will win most of those games given our defense from what i heard so far isn't going to be as big of a drop off expected after losing 3-4 of our top tacklers? Just curious on what # of points FEASABLE would make most people on VOLNATION comforatable to hand it over to our D, and can we put up that amount of points....:hi:

I believe that this team could win 4 but i also believ they could win 8 or 9 with some luck on our side. I could see either scenario working out.

I agree, we just have to wait and see.

My prediction is 8-4 with losses to Oregon, Florida, LSU and Bama. Possibly a loss to South Carolina, but I haven't convinced myself just yet.

Realistically, this is a 6-6 team, +/- 2 wins...

The majority of teams in the SEC this year will be a 6-6, +/-2 team...with the exception of Florida and Alabama. That's a large margin (+/-2). Maybe LSU should get a bit more respect, but I'm not sold. GA is down, USC2 can never manage anything better, Vandy and UK are still Vandy and UK. Auburn always chokes (but they are coming up), MSU and Ole Miss are the same as GA. ARK will be somewhere around the middle of the pack as they always are.

I say that meaning, we will be just fine...we are in the middle of things....and to be there this season is OK.

Optimistic but I like your call. Although, I see us beating Oregon but taking possibly another loss in the SEC.

Agree. If we beat Oregon I see us losing to S.Carolina and if we lose to Oregon I see us beating S.Carolina.

That's just it... we are a middle of the pack team. Mediocre. if the breaks go our way, 8 wins would be a realistic ceiling for us. But with the lack of depth and injuries and a young QB, we could go 4-8.

True. We could, although I don't see it happening. There are many positions we loaded on (offense and defense) and will be sitting even better over the summer/fall with new additions which will win us some games. ALSO, something I think people overlook is the fact we a brand new system as been installed and it is one that many other SEC teams don't know the ins and outs. They can compare it to Saban's if they wish or Boise's if they may, but the fact is that the schemes CDD, CJC, and CJW throw at many of these SEC teams have not been seen by them thus make it hard to prepare.

I challenge you or anyone else to find a more devoted fan of the University of Tennessee than I. I graduated from UT, travel to most away games and bowl games and donate every year for almost 20 years now and have season tickets.
However, I will not just accept what is thrown our way by an AD that appears to be in over his head. He got Pearl but has wiffed on everything else. From how he handled the Fulmer situation, the baseball hire, contract negotiation and the way he let Kiff have such a low buy out. And whether or not you want to face the truth he did have a knee jerk reaction with the hiring of our new football coach. I don't recall ANYONE cheering on this board or on the radio when DD was announced and there is a reason.
Now, if you want to live in a dream world and think all is fine then that is cool by me. But I refuse to do so and will call what I see.
I truly hope I'm wrong but I've seen little to nothing to make me think I am.

My response to the OP.
I realize that. But I think you got a little bit carried away with the Hamilton rant. I don't think the AD has done anything in the last 3 months to try to hype up fans' expectations. In fact, quite the opposite has been argued (lack of information coming out of the football program, lack of media access or interviews, etc.).

I think most fans expectations are pretty well grounded, considering we've had 3 coaches in 18 months. Not many fans are drinking any Kool-Aid because nobody has really been serving any out of the UTAD's office or anywhere else.

What a big win would do for a club like this, to take out florida or bama, that could do wonders for this team.

My response to the OP.

That rant was unmerited but I suppose I see where you are coming from. I'm not arguing anyone's views or loyalties or charitable contributions. I merely stated fact...that the Doomsday Fans love to throw hate around when they question why and how something is done. And Hamilton wasn't even in the thread so I see no reason to bring him up. I still think there were plenty of other coaching options that should have been in here now as the HFBC, BUT, it is what it is, and he's trying so until proven otherwise, I'll support what I see. THAT BEING SAID, that still doesn't take away from or make anything I've said earlier untrue. There's only one thing worse than a fair weather fan and that is a DOOMSDAY-the-world-is-ending-we-will-only-win-two-game-this-year-FAN.

They will lose to UGA and South Carolina as well, and maybe Ole Miss or Kentucky.
