If Dooley were to replace any of the position coaches after this year, who would they be and who would be a legit replacement?

The 3 on the top of my list (in order) would be H. Hiestand (OL), T. Joseph (DB), and J. Chaney (OC) but I don't have a clue on who would be a legit replacement. Thoughts???

I've been critical of Dooley this year but I think he can, if given the time, get the job done in the long run. I'm a diehard VFL and want us to contend for a SEC & NC title each and every year but I fully believe that the football program needs stability more than anything at the Head Coach position. The excuse of youth and lack of experience goes out the window halfway through the season. Newbies need to emerge but I do also understand that Fulmer and Kiffin left the cupboard bare so it's hard for that to happen when the true depth stops at the 1st and 2nd stringers at almost each position. CDD will need to start winning 8+ games starting next year. If he's not pushing for double digit W's in 2013 and 2014 then he should rightfully be on the hot seat.

GBO!!!

Hiestand is probably the most obvious one, and the one even the most ardent of Dooley supporters would agree with.

I don't know who his replacement would be. I'm not very well versed in offensive line coaches.

lol. Fair enough mod.

I don't think Chaney needs to go. He needs to make some adjustments that he refuses to make, but #1 on the hit list would be Hiestand.

Here is another question. What if Dooley doesnt fire anybody ? I for one see him replacing the OL coach and needs to replace TJ and possibly JC.But if he makes no changes then one has to look at that Dooley doesnt think there is a problem with his staff.
I for one want to see DD be here for a long time but Im starting to have my doubts and no it doesnt make me not a real fan. This team has problems that goes beyond Bray,Hunter being hurt or the lack of depth.I keep reading posts where nobody thinks Ky or Vandy can beat Tn and I dont think Ky can but Vandy has a real good shot.
It use to be we would be worried about Fla,Ala,Ga not Ky or Vandy. Its bad when were depending on these kind of games to get our 1st SEC win or a win just to get to a bowl game.So if Tn some how loses to Ky and Vandy VN will not go into full melt down ?

Ideal time to correct the offensive side of the ball, especially O-line with only one recruit on the radar. Need an RB coach so another coach has to go or Hinshaw has to convert. My concern is that we have a heavy Big 10 offense background in our coaching staff with Chaney, Baggett and Hiestand. That dog won't hunt in the SEC when it comes to the run game.

Fire Heistand, move Chaney to offensive line and stay OC (guess what positions he coached in the NFL), and then get a RB coach.

Problems solved with minimal change to staff.

Maybe I hadn't noticed it before, but on the utsports website it has Chaney listed as a RB coach too. Is this something new or had it been there all along?

I want Bob Bostad (the O-Line, run coordinator at Wisconsin) and if I'm Dooley I'm making him the highest paid O-Line coach in the country.

A former Tennessee lineman and NFL ProBowler would disagree:

Dont care what anyone says. If UT runs off Harry, who are they gonna get? You poeple dont understand. The Head COACH and OC determines what kind of Scheme that he supposed to be teaching the OLINE. Its not the other way around. Do your research before you blame it on Harry. He doesnt call the plays, and hes not the one that wants to use a Zone blocking Scheme. Hes doing what hes told. Zone blocking is about 70% Pass blocking. For example, look at the Colts OLINE, they use Zone blocking Schemes, and thats why you dont see their RB getting alot of yards. Indys passing game is based on Timing, same thing that TENNESSEE USES!!!!! On the other hand we use "Hole" Blocking up here. For you people that dont know the difference, then Why are you saying get rid of Harry if you have no IDEA what your talking about, Tennessee uses Zone Blocking with No Pulling and its not Man on Man blocking, meaning they dont get to the second level, so LB's have free reign to plug any gaps. It doesnt help that the OLINE is BIG AND SLOW. The guards are too big and not quick enough. Glad I got some time to maybe give you fans some hope. Because unless you have played for an extended amount of time, ABOVE HS, you really dont know what goes on and who pulls whos strings. Harry is doin what hes told to do. Pass the blame to someone else besides a Position coach.

So, just to end my RANT, please Vols, if you dont know what your talking about then dont bash a guy that doesnt deserve it. The man is as hard of a worker that you will ever find. He was one of the BEST olineman coaches that has ever coached football. Coached PRO-BOWLERS. So, if you say that hes garbage like Ive seen on older post, then your not really that intelligent. Just wish that people would stay off harry A**, no wonder hes pissed, hes tired of the blame getting pushed onto the positions coaches by Fans that dont really understand the whole situation that goes on, behind the scenes. So, Please guys cut harry some slack, because your not going to get a better O line coach. Not gonna happen

I've asked before but is there a guy that could coach both backs and o-line? Not norm but we got $$ in Knoxville right. Maybe an up and coming O coordinator would have the tools. If he could work with Chaney they could do good things and if Chaney got the axe he could move up with stability. A few years ago didn't we have the highest paid staff HC excluded? Spend to wim!

I would give Hiestand one more year, just because we need one more off-season program for his O-line to get in physical shape.

I would put Joesph in an administrative roll, and get Billy Napier (LWS's idea) out of Bama's office. That's an elite recruiter, and let him coach either QB's or RB's, preferably QB's.

This would be my hope for Dooley's coaching staff next year....

Dooley - HC
Chaney - OC
Wilcox - DC/Secondary

Eric Russell - TE/ST
Harry Hiestand - OL (One more year)
Billy Napier - QB or RB (Recruiting Coordinator)
Darin Hinshaw - QB or RB
Charlie Baggett - WR

Lance Thompson - DL
Peter Sirmon - LB

That's what I am hoping for.

Youth doesn't magically become a nonfactor halfway through a season. I stopped reading after that.
