One season isn't long enough to judge a football coach.

But if you're already determined to characterize the Derek Dooley era at Tennessee, I recommend you start at the top.

Start with his hair.

It's as consistent as artificial turf. It doesn't grow or fall out.

The weather changes. The score changes. The hair doesn't.

You might regard this as nothing more than good grooming. I prefer to go deeper.

No it's a sign he took after his mothers side of the family:

I took it as proof that Adams, unlike most of the media during a slow news cycle, doesn't bleed old stories, or pose 'what ifs' like they're news. Instead, he puts his tongue in his cheek, dresses up in orange edible panties and a Nixon halloween mask, and writes something goofy that doesn't pretend to be serious.

What would you rather have, this comedy bit on Dooley's hair, or a retread about Jackson that wonders if, maybe, theoretically (ala Fox News), the reason Coach gave him so much rope and then kicked him out is because Dooley was secretly dealing to the whole team and Jantzen, theoretically, might, maybe have gotten out of control and threatened to narc on everyone.

I liked this story. All too often, journalists just make up news when they don't have anything factual to report. Adams, instead, gets in touch with his inner smartass.

MemphisVol, your concluding sentence is beautifully stated. And Adams does not have to reach far to achieve the stated objective since he has an endless supply of sarcasm, the lone arrow in his literary quiver. He has always struck me as someone who experienced great personal pain whenever circumstances forced him to say anything positive about Tennessee’s football program. Therefore, it surprises me immensely when he predicts that “The Vols will beat Florida for the first time in seven years,” and further states that “The Gators' drop-off is illustrated by a Tennessee-Florida comparison. The Vols might be better in every offensive area — quarterback, running back, receivers and line.”

Actually I read an article from back when he was first hired. Dooley was talking about the routine with his hair is alot like his routine with his football programs. Stability is key in maintaining good hair dos and keeping a good football team. Or something like that, I don't know. Been awhile since I read it.

What does the "grey" hair he's grown in the last year represent?

This is such a stupid article...

Of course it's a sign of stability. It's grand.

Talk about something made up out of thin air!!!!! The hair thing is silly. The rest of the story is OK. Just a reporter writing in search of a story.
