Dooley said the team "gave up".

The nail in the coffin then. Year three. His team. In a game he actually had won in the middle of the 3rd.

PS - I like a lot of your posts, zjc.

All that talk about handling adversity and giving up after the go ahead touchdown!!

Interesting that this only came out in a paper that hardly anyone can read.

If he did say that then I would assume he and the coaches decided to call out the team to play real Tennessee football and never give up in a public forum.

Jeff Fisher did that a few times after certain players didn't listen to him or his coaches so he brought it out for the public to see.

Sometimes things said in public works and sometimes it doesn't since it always depends on the person.

I still have to wonder about something supposedly said in only 1 newspaper that nobody can verify and that isn't quoted anywhere else.

Hmmmmm.....

We handled the first wave of adversity well when Bray threw the interception. The last one not so well. Burned by Burton and a corner blitz gone wrong.

Thought it was interesting that he would said that.
Just telling it like it is. There still are no leaders. TB isn't a take charge QB. There's no RB that wants the ball. They're still conditioned to expect disaster and then crumble.

I can promise you it was in the paper. I don't have a subscription and have to pay to read some online articles.

BTW, the headline in the paper was "Vols ran out juice".

This is this biggest problem IMO. We need the Al Wilson-type personality that isn't going to let anybody let down under any circumstances. Who isn't going to accept anything from anybody but their best effort.

We haven't had a this kind of a true leader in that locker room in a long time.

5'8" corner blitzing a 6'4" qb. Hmmn. But seriously, Gordon should have jumped and interfered with the throw. Hitting Driskell had no affect. Teague did (or didn't do) the rest. Two guys who will be recruited over or be gone after next year. The call by Sal was a good one. Got to execute it better. Cost us our young safety too. Bad all around.

After all of our recent 2nd half meltdowns...and the KY fiasco...he wouldn't be doing himself a favor calling out his team for quitting.

Nope, the buck stops with him.... That's his job to see that doesn't happen and it's happened too much under his watch... If you have to bench a guy to make a point, bench a guy. Even if it's your best offensive player....

I still am surprised he admit it publicly. Maybe I'm over analyzing it, but I don't see any thing good that can come out from this, especially when it's not like it was plain as day they quit. Hell, I felt like they didn't.

“It was a good football game,” Dooley said, “and we’re sitting there and we just gave up.”

That pretty much says it all. Its the 3rd year folks.

Thanks for posting the link that the OP didn't have.

I think Bray quit but I didn't see our D quit.

I just saw our D worn down and tired from being on the field too much without our O moving the chains consistently.

We still don't have SEC type players all over the field and our backups have very little experience but that will be corrected as we keep recruiting well.

Even in the NFL it normally takes 2 years to switch over to a 3-4 D and get good at it and we all knew mistakes would be made this season.

Our D didn't quit but were tired and out of position too many times late in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

We are getting better but it's still going to take some time and more time than alot of our fans want.

I want instant Wins too but I also understand how college football works.
