I know there's been a lot of threads written on this subject, but thought everyone would be interested in hearing it from the horse's mouth.

Not sure how I feel about CDD's decision regarding the release, but part of me is happy that he will be playing for our most hated rival. The silver lining -- at least we'll get a few shots at him, have the chance to boo him, knock him in the mouth, etc. If he plays for douche bag Kiffin at USC, we probably never get that chance.

Can somebody give me some back story on this kid? I used to be big into recruiting and everything but ever since those 2 bi classes we got a year ago I'm like "Oh look, a 4 star". So I'm not into it anymore. And I'm not familiar with his ties to Tenn. since I am a fairly young fan myself.

I dont know every detail but here goes: Guy comes to UT in Kiffins first class, starts last year, Kiffin Leaves he transfers to a JC in Arizona, then he signs with Bama.

Bold part is incorrect. Douglas signed with UT in the '08 class.

Not to mention he is a homegrown TN kid whose dad played football for UT, and his mom played basketball here.
(just in case you didn't know that already) :p
Now he's with the enemy.

He actually signed with Fulmer in 2008 as TE and was red-shirted his freshman year. He was moved to OL during Kiffin's first year and earned Freshman All-American honors. His father, Aaron Sr, played on UT's 1985 SEC championship team and for the Bengals. His mother, Karla Horton Douglas, started three seasons for Lady Vols basketball, including Pat Summitt's first national championship team.

Dooley granted him a release, but stipulated that the school had to be 8 hours away. He went to JUCO and now is headed right back. Dooley could have prevented it, but didn't. Now he will suit up for Alabama.

How could Dooley have prevented this?

Dooley couldn't have done anything. Once Douglas went to JUCO, any stipulations on his release imposed by UT were invalidated, and Douglas was free to attend any school that would offer him.

With Carpenter leaving and with Douglas credentials, I can see help at the position. Coach Saban only takes Jr. college guys if a need will be filled immediately.

Apparently Douglas still wants Tennessee nation to remember him. Pretty much guaranteed.

I wasn't referring to Douglas ending up at Alabama. I was simply referring to Douglas transferring in the first place. CDD could have denied his request outright is all I meant. Although with that said, an argument could be made that had CDD outright denied the request, who knows what would have happened? Douglas may have stayed and toughed it out. He may have sat out a year and never come back to football at all. So I think there is some truth to the thought that CDD's decision, while it didn't determine the outcome of Aaron Douglas's college path, certainly had an influence.

I agree with this statement 100%. I just don't see Saban bringing in a kid with his baggage without really having a specific role to fill and having vetted this kid 100%. Saban is all team and isn't about to risk bringing in a bad apple unless there's a HUGE upside. Folks may say otherwise on this site, but that's emotion talking....we would love to have a fully committed AD in orange.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Aaron Douglas. Bottom line is he left when the team needed him the most. We had just gotten a new coach and no returning offensive lineman and he should have stepped up and been a team player. Instead he took the opposite and frankly I could care less if I ever hear this guys name again. He turned his back on his teammates and he is no team player. So therefore, good luck traitor.
