“Just think of it this way: Seven out of our top 10 leaders in production on defense are in their first or second year of the program. I think that’s right,” Dooley said. “And I think five of them — I might be wrong; give or take one or two — are in their first year with the program. When you start trying to increase the multiples and you play a really good team, you know what you end up with? You get a lot of mistakes, you get out of position, and then the scoreboard lights up."

Youth will be served

If I hear this guy use this excuse one more time, I might take a hostage. Montana had nothing but seniors. Why didn't they light us up???? Because we had more talent. Same goes for Vanderbilt. If we lose, it's because their coach has them motivated and he's getting 100% out of every player. Dooley is simply not, and if he loses this game, it's on him and the staff.

Now that I've said that, I want to make it clear that I do think we win...despite the staff. Bray is the leader of this team, and this guy won't lose to Vanderbilt at home.

Dooley is making a very good point, and totally true. The majority of our best players are Freshmen and Sophomores. The future looks bright to me!!!!

For some reason people confuse facts with excuses on this board.

Our opinions of Dooley don't matter at this point. Next year, however, I don't want to hear anything about "scars" and "a young football team."

He's simply making the point that you can hide one guy making mistakes. Maybe even two guys making mistakes.

When you have 5, 6, or 7 guys making mistakes and the other 4, 5, or 6 guys on the field are merely treading water....big s*it tends to happen.

Focus on what he said about multiples and it will make sense.

With all due respect. The "youth" that is being talked about should be experienced enough to take down Vandy at home. Sure your team is made up mainly of Freshmen and Sophomores, but we are in the end of the season already. Youth cannot be the reason why you lose to Vandy.

You used Montana??? Really?? lol Youth is an FACT.. maybe in your mind it is an excuse.. I see lots of great things to come in the next few years. These guys are coming in and playing in the best conference in the nation. Give them a break. In 2 years we should have the most experienced team in the nation.. If we don't by then, something is wrong and fire away. You talk about excuses.. Your excuse for us losing is because we have a Dooley as a coach.. So tell yourself to suck it up and stop making excuses.. It doesn't do anyone any good. Go Vols

Lets look at facts in this, we will have a very solid defense the next 2-3 years. I am very excited to watch this defense grow.

For some reason people confuse facts with excuses on this board.

Just tired of hearing it. Who does not already know that we are young? Anybody? Bueller???
He keeps reminding us of why he's not succeeding instead of telling us how he's going to overcome it and how the players are getting better.
Youth and inexperience is an excuse to make in year one, or maybe even early in year two. We are at game ten of season two. C'mon Dooley, give that excuse a rest. If you insist on justifying why you aren't getting production, why not find another reason...like maybe you aren't developing them well. Maybe you aren't motivating them and getting them prepared to play.

How exactly did I make an excuse? I never said we are losing because Dooley is the coach. I rather like Derek Dooley. He seems to be a solid recruiter, and a brilliant man. You are just kidding yourself if you think he's getting the most out of his players. You are also kidding yourself if you don't acknowledge that a loss to Vanderbilt means he was out-coached.

Also, if youth is a FACT, as you say, and a real reason for two years of poor on-field production, then we should be in great shape next year. I wonder what you folks will say next year, when we have more experience than anyone in the conference. By your logic, we should be in Atlanta, easy peasy. :dance2:

Experience is more than just playing time. Players do study the game and workout with top trainers. Most starters have at least 3 full years of experience compared to our 1. Our players definitely missing working under good players that are better than them.

I dont think any coach in the country could get the most out of these kids after taking the beatings weve had this year.

The difference in youth is very valid. we are going up against teams with guys that have been in their respective programs for 3, 4, 5 years. In addition to knowing through experience, they have all been in a Div. 1 strength and conditioning program for those same amount of years, IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE AT THIS LEVEL. It is NOT an excuse but FACT. :salute:

If he gave us his plan on succeeding you and the other haters would say he has never won, and his play won't work here either. I understand that you can't fathom there being a reason other than coaching of why this team is losing. Maybe you and others need to get a clue, and stop b**ching all the time.

For some reason people confuse facts with excuses on this board.

Same reason 16 year olds get ticked when parents tell them they cannot take the car out. They are being personally "oppressed" and denied what is their RIGHT. Reasons don't matter when they don't get what they want NOW.
