Dooltabby needs to have a come to jesus meeting with himself and soon.

I'll support TN football even when we suck so bad we are the laughing stock.

However having a coach who can't even get organized enough to know when top recruits are at our own O&W game is atrocious.

Also acknowledging a top 100 DE prospect as a WR is uncalled for.

Call me a negavol , call me what you want.

This isn't the WAC.

yeah ....

Trip Thurman on Dooltabby

per VQ

"I am not going to lie, I was mad," Thurman admitted. "I spoke with coach (Harry) Hiestand the day after the spring game and he apologized. He said he didn't know I was there. My coach called the football office and told them that I was coming, but with everything they have had going on, the coaches didn't know I was coming. Coach (Derek) Dooley is still trying to get everything organized.

"Coach Hiestand's apology was very sincere."

The Vols have not offered Thurman a scholarship, but Thurman said that Tennessee is definitely interested.

"I know that they are interested and after they apologized, I am still interested in them," Thurman offered. "Coach Hiestand and I email each other all the time. And they are coming to the high school in May to evaluate me more. They want to get to know me better, and obviously I want to get to know them."

Big Time OL recruit, parents are UT graduates and his dad is a season ticket holder. Kids offer list is LEGIT.

Trip Thurman said the coaches didnt even know he was there and Jenkins (a 2012 rivals100 DE) was called a WR by the coaching staff.

Wow... outstanding Dooley. Outstanding. How is he "still trying to get everything organized"? He's been in there for over 4 months.

from '12 DE Jordan Jenkins a top 100 player
after the O&W game

Jenkins, who hopes to return to a UT camp this summer and also indicated he would do his best to return next season for some games, also recounted a chance meeting with Chaney.

"I got to talk to the offensive coordinator, and he was visiting with a quarterback and thought I was a wide receiver," Jenkins remembered. "He was like, 'And here's one of the guys you'll be throwing to.' I said, 'I'm a defensive guy.'"

This is hilarious. We're talking about a guy that we don't even like enough to have offered. And at what point do you put the blame on the kid rather than the coaches when the kid called the recruiting office rather than a coach, and all the information on where the recruits need to go is on the friggin' official website. It's not even his first trip to Knoxville or Neyland. The dude didn't have anyone's number to call to figure out where he needed to go? He didn't have the recruiting office's number to find out? There were plenty of other recruits there who had no problem figuring out where they were supposed to be.

I mean, seriously, lets wait to criticize this staffs recruting efforts until February. I promise you we will have a full OL class made up of very talented players. It doesn't look like Trip Thurman will be among them though.

This staffs' recruiting efforts are very focused. They target their guys and the players that they feel they have a real shot at landing and they work their tails off. I think you all will be happy with the results. Things are about to heat up in a really good way in recruiting.

maybe so, but Hubbs has an issue with Dooley's media shy-ness and is not afraid to voice his frustration.

He is sending several fans off a cliff with this news. Sucks.

It's APRIL, dood. APRIL.

Do you know how many commits Kiffin had in April last year?

I get the apprehension, but take a Xanax and find something else to follow if every single negative thing about recruiting gets you this bent out of shape.

EVERYBODY makes mistakes in recruting. Many of Urban Meyer's are well-documented. Richt has had many recent gaffes. Spurrier has been banned from certain HS's. Get over it!

I'm not saying it's the biggest deal in the world, but that is still embarrassing that the information wasn't relayed. The Chaney comment is almost worse.

Uhh... I know I've been a little impatient with some of the recruiting news (or lack there of), but this is a none issue, imo.

In Chaneys defense, he prob just didn't know who the guy was because he was a DE and not an offensive player.

It's not the end of the world, but there are a ton of prospects that we lead for or like us, or have us in their top 5 who we haven't even contacted

That's correct. 1 player that actually faxed in a LOI in February. That class was going to be pretty good, wasn't it? Still ended up good. We will get players under this staff that wouldn't have given us a sniff under the previous one. And we won't get everybody. We don't WANT everybody.

This staff is selective, but intense and focused. There is a very specific plan in place and it's a good one. February will bring lots of joy to recruitniks like us, but give it a friggin' chance. We are in GOOD on a ton of great OL. Trip's lack of an offer is evidence to that fact.

We are ten months from next year's signing day. Seriously. Take a chill pill. I get sick of the "gloom and doom" on this website by fellow UT fans. Prospects need to get to know the new coaching staff, understand what schemes they'll be running, and then evaluate from there. Would you honestly pick UT right now (overlooking the fact you're a fan obviously) if you were being recruited by every major SEC school knowing you can go to an established coaching staff and program such as Florida or Alabama? Probably not. These kids need time to get to know the coaching staff before they jump on board, especially with all that has happened over the last couple of years. I'm all Vol and bleed orange and even I understand that as a fan. It's wait and see for this new coaching staff and I see that posted on the message boards all the time on here. But yet, you criticize the situation and coaching staff for the recruits wanting to do the same?

Relax, it is only April.

How is that embarrassing? Chaney's focus is on the '11 class. It's not surprising he didn't know the kid by sight and if the kid get's so butt-hurt by that that he doesn't want to come here, then he's not the kind of guy we want around our program anyway.
