this time last year we were about to enter one of the toughest times in recent memory. one coach lets down a million volunteer fans, players and coaches. january 15th, a new coach comes in to try and salvage the recruiting class and a program on a downward spiral. the players had lost all faith when their trust in kiffin was destroyed. dooley had to somehow earn the trust of a young but tallented team. well, it took a year. a year that was a losing season, filled with adversity. but the adversity, the passion, and the tough breaks have served to build strong personal relationships between this team. things are on the rise, and we will be back on top in the future. we are UT!

But we still suck. Dooley may well be on to things, I hope so, but we go into the offseason with many more questions than answers.

And it's been that way for the last five years. Sigh...

Uumm...hold on...
Still want to see the recruiting class, still understand that this was a "bye" year for Dooley, and still understand that our Defense is a year at best behind our Offense.
Plus- He had a losing season as the HC... I get the optimism but, he hasn't done much more than any other HC would have this year.... We beat no ranked teams, or winning teams, we looked horrid on SP Teams, and recruiting has come to fruition...

you must be joking. our team played with more true freshman than all but two teams in all of FBS. we have a ton of young tallent, including bray, hunter, rogers, neal, and players on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. to say that we 'still suck' is extremely short sided. i would be interested to hear what kind of questions you have going forward.

No we didn't, we just couldn't catch punts. Our kickoffs we're about average and our coverage was good.

Optimism.... Something I haven't had for a while with my beloved Vols. However, I'm feelin it. Should it turn out to be an error, life will go on, and one day we will return to the top of the SEC where we belong. One thing I have learned by wearing orange is to have hope.

hmm, what was he 'buy'ing?

he has done more than most head coaches could do. it really sucks that it happened but because of the extreme high and lows of winning two games and having them taken from you, the team can symapthize with each other and are a closer unit going forward.

also special teams was horrid? returning the ball was terrible, but do you remember our special teams coverage last year? i was scared everytime we kicked the ball that it was going to be run back. this area has GREATLY improved under coach dooley

We just couldn't "catch a punt".... really ? How many returns for TDs did we have ? How many kicks were missed, how many extra points, how much field position was gained/lost.... really ?

It took Tom Landry seven seasons to break .500.

Bill Belichick went 5-11 in his first season with the Pats.

Nick Saban went 7-6 in his first season with Alabama.

You can go on and on.

One season doesn't entirely indicate the coaching and team building abilities of a head-coach, positively or negatively.

we were lucky to make a bowl game. But it does suck we have 3 losing seasons in 6 years.

No one has a clue if Dooley is the man or not. Get a grip.

the point is not that he is the man or he is not the man. the point was he took a bunch of players who had lost faith in coaches, and in a year, he has pulled this unit of players together and earned their trust through adversity.

Especially...Special Teams !!! At this point were more "special" than team, and yes better than last year.... Why can't we become the VT of special teams ???? Damn it, its not that hard... We just have more weaknesses that need attention I get it...

FIELD GOALS-ATTEMPTS 15-18
PAT-ATTEMPTS (40-43) 93%

doesnt seem that bad, does it.

i know, 3 missed PATs, well, we do have a true freshman in there. you really expect perfection, especially with such and inexperienced line?

Which is what any coach worth their salt would've done. It wasn't some miraculous season by any stretch. The season was basically a wash.

my football iq is on the scale of a Ra-Tard, but i know that when you play 16 true freshman in the SEC, including a true freshman qb, wide receivers, running back and o line, how in the world is that experience a wash???????? those 16 players are not gonna be stronger in the future because of this season?

according to volfan8282, we should have just sat out this year, not installed the offensive and defensive schemes, and we should not have gained experience playing in the SEC because he says this year was a wash? who agrees with this?

I'm saying it's a wash in terms of determining Dooley's ability. His recruiting is not exactly setting the world on fire at the moment. Our team made just stupid, undisciplined mistakes at the end of the LSU and UNC games. I can't tell how much of that is talent/depth issues and how much of that is Dooley's ineptness as a college football coach. Next year will be a much better sample from which to judge. He didn't do anything superhuman this year.
